Ongoing assessments - normal practice?

When I started at asda Washington they said I would have an assessment every 12 weeks aswell as a progress interview. In three years I was never given either. It’s one thing yo say you will be assessed, it’s another to actually get it done. As for the money they’re offering it’s pish poor and I for one would not be considering it.

If you’re only paying 8 quid an hour on artic, with o/t only after 50hrs, you do probably need to keep an eye on the drivers you have once a month.

At that rate, the only drivers you’ll get won’t be up to much!

Generally, I don’t think an assessment every 6 months is unreasonable. But these places that are obsessed such as the big supermarkets, for example, make me smile. Overkill, just to make sure they aren’t sued at some stage.

I’m so glad I turn up, drive and bugger off home!!

When I was at Co-op, the DT used to take you out once a year for a day.

We have annual assessments but if you have an accident you then have a post accident assessment, also a new employee will have one after 6 months then yearly after that. The assessment could be round a chosen route or an all day job depending on time or how busy we are.

Thanks for everyone’s input. Needless to say I shall be declining any potential job offers that arise from this outfit, purely on hourly rate alone.

I preferred the previous way of working, where you’d go out in the truck every day and as long as you delivered the right stuff to the right places and brought the truck back in one piece every day, then you were considered sound and just be left alone to crack on with the job.
