Dangerous is my opinion of them.So is crossing the road, but it depends how you adapt to it.
I would think the obvious pathetic standard UK answer from some, would be ‘ban em’
. (It’s either ban them or tax them whenever and whatever 'they’re may be in this country when the bandwagon is jumped on)
My ex model Mrs wears killer heels and can walk fine in them no probs, and ‘carry them off’ where as other women can’t walk in them for toffee, so if some fat bird from Essex or whatever, trips and breaks her ankle, should they be banned?
Ok…a crap analogy granted, but you get my drift.

Basically what you are saying then is you could adapt to one and you would not have an accident? I don’t understand your logic at all. Anything blocking the windscreen is a danger and no matter how observant you are it may cause an obstruction and some innocent person may die. And for what?
They are DANGEROUS.

Believe me when I tell you, so are high heels!!
But actually I agree with you on the tables. Driving a lorry is hard enough, why make things harder by putting up something which you dont actually need. In the article it states that he took down the table when the vehicle went in for inspection, one would conclude that this driver knew it was dangerous too.

Well YOU would say that Jake wouldn’t you.
I mean, the official line says it, no doubt backed up with statistics, so it MUST be gospel eh?
Ok maybe a 3 tier table (whatever tf that is ) maybe is dangerous from the point of view of obliterating a lot of visibility, but speaking from experience when I used to have a one, it sat about 1 inch above the top of the dash, and it was never a problem to me,… but hey ho…
In fact it sat a lot lower than that box of electronic crap in my present truck, that goes off when you cross a white line, that ■■■■ thing sits above the top of the dash by a lot more…, but that must be ok though Jake eh?. because it’s been deemed safe by VOSA ?.
I MAY win the lottery this week, but I sure as hell ain’t going to jack my job on the strength of it.

You always have an answer, not always a very good one but an answer of some description.
Anything blocking the windscreen is and can be dangerous (not maybe) and although we were mostly talking about the 3 tier table in this thread I 100% guarantee your electronic box is not dangerous in any way.
100% guarantee ?.. ok I can sleep soundly now.
However…if a car is blocked out of view by my electronic box, which it momentarily has been on many occasions, but me not being some kind of inept bafoon (of the type that are the reason all these bloody stupid rules are made up for) , I just deal with it instead of going over the top of it.
But hey, it’s approved by VOSA and the likes of yourself, so it’s not in the least dangerous, but my table 1’’ over top of dash is eh?..Ahh right.
Ok, I get it now, that clarifies things.
Ffs
Btw…it isn’t that ‘I always have an answer’ Jake, it’s just that I react to your usual ‘I believe it because officialdom states it’’ attitude, just to come at you from a realistic non theory perspective.

Don’t get carried away/# Keep things real.
I think you just argue for the sake of it sometimes. Let me explain how your electronic box is not dangerous even though I have not seen it. The only obstruction it could cause is something situated right in front of your vehicle. Now the only time that is likely is when you are going slowly and unless you are a completely distracted you will notice what is there before you get too close.
On the other hand if you have stickers or 3 tier tables or silly curtains draped round the screen then they can cause blind spots at far more critical times of driving.
Now that is the reality of the situation.
I’ve just told you…the thing creates a blindspot!
Granted a small one but nevertheless a blind spot.

+1 there robroy but once again your flogging a dead horse when up against the context of you cant educate pork and the blind that cant see,not forgetting the frantic copy and paste rule book concept.
however it does pass the time wondering if this mob actually believe the pish they type…
i absolutely love the next quote that sums it up perfectly…

So now there are ‘safe blindspots’ and ‘unsafe blindspots’ eh?
It isn’t that I argue with you for the sake of iit as you say, it’s just that it’s annoying when somebody always thinks they are right about every bloody thing all the time, and that the rest of us know the far end of f. all in comparison.

Aye but Chester can just be written off as a pure knob,.where as Jakey genuinely thinks he knows more about any bloody thing to do with transport than anybody else on here, but his opinions are mostly based on official rhetoric and theory, even if he is shot down in flames when real world stuff is pointed out to him, and he is more or less proven wrong,… he still maintains his air of ‘I know better superiority’.
High wind up, ■■■■ annoyance factor sometimes , but I love him really.

Now you claim to know what I am thinking.Wow. Well I am thinking that you think you are right all the time too.
You’ve got to laugh really, so how do the super duper, better than every other road user, professionally trained traffic cops get away with all the gizmos and gadgets they have in their direct view? Surely any object in direct view is a recipe for causing blindspots?
gov.uk/government/publicati … bscuration
Of course there are strict rules and regs which do not allow any vehicle on the road if there are obstructions to the windscreen.
Maybe RR should point his little box out to them incase they have made a mistake?? Or maybe traffic cars are putting things in their front windscreen that gives then big blind spots and causes danger to other road users.

From your link
"In practice, the annual test will check that items placed in or stuck to the windscreenor surface damage, cracks or discolouration in the windscreen do not seriously obscure the vision of the driver. In order to better define what maybe permissible the windscreen is divided into zones:
Zone A is a vertical area 290mm wide, centred on the steering wheel and contained within the swept area of the windscreen (this area is 350mm wide on vehicles over 3.5 tonnes);Zone Bis the remainder of the swept area of the windscreen
For simplicity, surface damage, cracks or discolouration, are simply referred to as damage.
In Zone A, a single damaged area shall be contained within a 10mm diameter circle. A combination of minor damage areas shall not seriously restrict the drivers view. Windscreen stickers, or other obstructions, shall not encroach more than 10mm.
In Zone B, a single damaged area shall be contained within a 40mm diameter circle. Windscreen stickers, or other obstructions, shall not encroach more than 40mm."
So, tray tables that encroach less than 10mm are acceptable but robroys sensor actually breaks the rules.
