Was Direct Transport Gobowen re-named North Shropshire Transport? I remember both companies.
Hello Chris, Dennis charles Of Direct transport Retired about 12 yrs ago, sold a few lorries And kept 2. He has sold a foden in the last few yrs to Mr Brian Denny of Oswestry and is on the show scene, Dennis still has is yard and still got one foden in garage and as not moved for years. North Shropshire ran about 12 motors out of Gobowen in the 50s & 60s and owned by the Weetman family, Later being sold to the Wild group and moving from Gobowen about 1966/67. The last time i seen one of North Shropshires motors in wilds livery was 1973 a atki borderer which was parked in Cwmbran. I have very fond memories of North Shropshire as i used to help wash My uncles lorry (Jack Bright), Anyway i ran my own company (N.C.Peate & Sons) untill 2000, and then changed the company name to North Shropshire and run from the village of St Martins just 2 mile from Gobowen. And also very good friends with founders son Graham Weetman, Chris hope this helps you.

Hi Nev,thanks for that. I remember seeing Direct Transport around in the 70s,probably in John Summers at Shotton. The Wild Group were from Stoke IIRC in a blue and white livery ? The name Weetman rings a bell, there is or was a haulier from North Yorks called Ed Weetman,I wonder if it’s the same family.
Hello Chris, I know there is ed Weetman in Stafford, and dont know if any relation, Mr Fred Weetman of North Shropshire was the brother of Mr Harry Weetman the famous golfer from the 50s

Hi Nev,
Remember seeing “The Direct Transport” running through Leominster in the eighties,or early nineties their lorries were a bit dated, but they always looked reliable and tidy.
Cheers Dave.

A rare one
I was surprised to see this motor in Cadwallader’s colours - there’s a pic of it when new here
I’ve a recollection that it had an 8LXB Gardner in it - uncommon in a Seddon 34 Four
Found another Area Trans
