Hi Bewick,Apologies
This Guy is the light 8 Warrior,I inserted the wrong photo.it was loaded with Bran meal out of Blyth docks for Spillers on the quayside Newcastle.
The BMC was loaded with 8 ton of cement out of Blue Circle Cement works in Weardale.

Thanks for that âf troopâ,so the Guy would have had the AEC 7.7 engine/5 speed box/Eaton axle. They were very popular at the time as you could carry about 17 ton with a lightweight flat on the chassis, but they were chronically under powered to run at 24 GVW IIRC.Cheers Bewick.

Im not sure about that,I drove the another Guy Warrior CNL266B which i think had a AEC 470 in with a six speed box and Eaton 2 speed floating back axle.as you say they were very under powered, but were fast when you got them wound up on the flat.If you pushed them hard up the long heavy climbs they were prone to blow a head gasket.brakes were not to good either.

Lorries parked in the garage at Bath Lane.
Thats very nostalgic for me. My grandfather used to take us on a lot of walks when we we kids. One of the detours was through the coop wagon shed in Meadowfield just out the back of where he lived. He was a bookkeeper/accountant at the coop around the front I can still smell the garage and hear the birds twittering around in that building. The trucks in the picture remind me of the eclectic mix and are about the same era. thanks for the memory

0Loading sea sand at Blakemoor Creswell, Old John Fallon [RIP] on the Volvo loading shovel. Regards Larry.
Hi Larry,
Who was the sand bought off at Blakemoor and along the dunes towards Duridge,As a lad i can remember seing a lot of Edward Fails lorries of Morpeth and Woods of Blyth leading the sand.
thanks larry
i lost a lot of photos my computer packed up so have been scanning a lot of the photos again.
regards mark
Well the two places we loaded at was B/Moor, & Hemscot Hill, We went on to the job when Woods of Blyth sold the rights to Northern Aggregates from Pallet Hill Quarry Catterick, Willy Bell had some connection too, the wagons had to cross his land to get to the loading point on the beach, Nag also built a weighbridge there, & as far as I know it is still there, of course no sand is taken from there anymore,. The place was plundered at the latter end, Thompsons ended up with the job, But we were long gone before that, It was a decent pay job at the start but like everything else they started to crib about what we were getting for the haulage, so we just told them politley what to do with it, we had plenty of other work available at that time so we just carried on. We still did quite a bit of work for Willy Bell, hauling grain up to Swarland, happy days eh. Regards Larry.
