Old North East haulage companies (Part 1)

Blimey Bewick they would have had to have been up at four in the morning to fire that up and have it ready for the road and we winged about not having a radio fitted! My old Grandad drove a light commercial when he was young, early 1900’s and said he had a night out going from Washington to Newcastle and back, if he got bored on the road he jumped out and walked along side to stretch his legs. Just think, you would have got fined for doing over 12 mph in those days, now those motors had real crash boxes in! Cheers Franky.

Im not from the North East, but what about Siddle C. Cook, ( Elddis ) ?

Ray Wright Tow law now finished yard & everything up for sale got a months work off him when I was made redundant Elddis 2yr ago I knew it wasnt permanent as he was in the process of selling up to Durham City In the end that didnt work out & he only ended up selling them 6 units with cranes & the cage trailers. He kept one with a crane for plant work & has been doing containers for a couple of yr. Here`s the hos I had for the month & a couple with Cranes.

You should give him a knock see if hes got any photos,
I can remember going to work with my dad one day when he was driving a 6 wheeler dodge for W Collins like that one you put on, we spent the day shouting at each other due to the raw it made and going home with a bad head and wishing he still had his f86 that he drove at his previous job for Alan Gillander. No i think we ll stick with our volvos Mark

No bother mate, arthur sometimes comes in my local pub never thought to ask him for any photos, i have not seen him for a while though , maybe he was not venturing out in the bad weather we have had.

mark

Never took any pics of the dodge but heres one of the 86
