Re teeside hauliers, dont forget Carlisle Bros. Gil is still going working as an owner driver on container work.
Another Teeside company was Stevens with their pole trailers, they made our 60fts look a little on the small side as they passed us. Still we went there and back at 60ft, as they didn`t close up, which caused problems at times.

Harry, Collinsons packed in a few yrs ago when Melinate at Jarrow shut not sure when?I worked for them Jan 1975 to may1987 and that was after doing a couple of months at Youngy`s then moved on to Ge Armstrong at Durham. When I worked for them our main work was commercial plastics Cramlington Anglo Plastics Chirton & Dog meal out of the old Wrights Bisciut factory at South Shields when that closed we started working out of melinate with the rates out of there not being to clever thats when things started to go downhill & I left. There was a couple of lads that used Normans regular Tommy Vickers (cannonball) & Brian Telford (the Milkman) he used to be a mate at Cooks. Both now deceased.

Often had a night out with Gornalls drivers when I worked for mc governs on the bricks in the mid eighties. I still see Jeff Breward at the vintage truck shows now and then. Sadly I think big big Alan was killed on the M1 a few years ago, he was known to everyone as âClatter.â Dont quite know whether it was because his false teeth made such a racket, or the fact that he had the loudest voice I had ever heard.

However, she (Beverley Bell) warns: âI am told by [his solicitor] that Mansoor Hussain never âwants to work in transport againâ. That remains to be seen, but I make it clear that if [he] or any third parties linked to him and to this entity apply for an O- licence in the future, that this will be determined by a [TC] at public inquiry.â
First time I`d seen a catalytic fire when parked up overnight with Jeff Suddas (god rest his soul) he used one as a night heater when on for Gornals, I always thought it was dodgy especialy after a few jars
Probably know you kevmac especialy after been on waughs also used to do a lot of bricks when on for GeArmstrong for Gornal & Mcgoverns

McGoverns are still about with there brick yard just up the bank a little from me
McGoverns yard opposite the Fire Service Workshops on Nest Rd Felling where I work has recently packed up and it now has odd trailers and a few caravans parked in there, donât know what the score is with that but we thought McGoverns might have packed in but I later noticed the small yard was still open, although I havenât seen his motors for a while, especially any artics. I liked the McGovern livery and built a model SA 401 a while back but never got round to doing a brick trailer yet, totally ficticious as I donât even know if they ran the 401, maybe the 3-11 but somebody might know. Franky.
