A few old ones taken at Stanhope
Not exactly a group of lorries but a nice nostalgic view of a fleet of Newcastle Corporation Transport Trollybuses parked in Byker depot, hard to believe the posts and cables to supply power for these fantastic vehicles stretched for miles above and around the streets of Newcastle not so long ago. Franky.

Thats a blast from the past Franky & a great photo too, It looks like the reg on the first one LTN, Thats a 1947/48 No. Keep them rolling, Regards Larry.
They look brand new Larry and the photo is dated 1948, quite a smart bunch, I don’t think they are all bound for Gosforth though as the destination screen says I doubt if the High St would have coped eh, they must have all been set in that position until put on the runs. I used to love getting the Trolleybus to my Grans at Walkergate from Benton and can still recall the sparks and the smell, great stuff!
He,s a few more old ones regards servo88
A blast from the past, Mortons of Wooler another long gone great firm who served their customers very well, Regards Larry.

The last time I saw it was when Fergie had the old NCB Workshops at Ashington, I often wondered where it ended up, Regards Larry.
Well he,s some more oldie,s can anyone recognise some of them, regards servo88
Hi Franky, These 20 BUT (British United Traction) 9641T trolleybuses with Metropolitan Cammell Weymann bodies to London Transports Q design are believed to have been diverted from a London Transport order and part of an order for 70 vehicles This first 20 had London style destination aperture layout whereas the later deliveries had Newcastle’s standard three aperture destination layout. Newcastle’s trolleybus system is believed to have been the largest outside London with 204 vehicles on 28 routes non of which crossed the Tyne. The last trolleybus ran in 1966. I well remember crossing the city on them as a young lad from Central Station to the Haymarket after travelling from Carlisle on the United service 34 to Marlborough Crescent then from the Haymarket to Blyth on United services 4, 6 or 8 from about 1949 until 1955. Their silent operation and rapid acceleration were something to marvel at not having such sofisticated six wheeler buses over in ■■■■■■■■■■■
Cheers, Leyland 600.
Interesting details Leyland 600, in the days when you could catch a bus to almost anywhere those Trolley’s were a common sight. I’m not sure if the present day Newcastle Passenger Transport has a museum where these and other older vehicles can be seen, some of the old sheds that have since been demolished could have been used for this but with the need for ever more housing our industrial past sadly seems to come a long way down in the list. Franky.
A couple of nice photo’s of Ranks Fodens outside the Baltic Mill around the 1950’s, the Mill would have been quite new here as it opened in 1950. Franky.

There is one of the six-wheeler Sunbeam trolleybuses at Beamish museum (can’t remember its Fleet no.) but it is sometimes outside the Tram shed.
