I used to deliver flour to Huffkins bakery in Witney (then distributed to their shops). I took Mrs and Mini Muckaway to their Witney shop and ■■■■ Turpin robbed me of nearly £11. I was left with a company coffee, tea and two cakes!
Aye its not a cheap place to dine to say the least but we both enjoyed it & it was £18, and they didn’t have mask on like old ■■■■ Eh, & they did smile when I paid the bill, Ha Ha, Regards Larry.

What about the old bird cage on the A5.
Anybody remember that one not seen it mentioned,
or the thorn trees on the old A49.
I remember the Birdcage. Do you remember the fruit loaf she used to make in a round cake tin so that every slice was a different size. I once asked he and she got out the scales and weighed them, they were all the same weight, just different thicknesses
Think her weigh bridge was a bit out (needed-Calibrating) don’tyou think "eh"lads.
What about the ollies --Coranation- dordon- many more on the A5 before M6 link,
That’s when everybody shared a table .Most like one each now.

Anybody been to Morgans Cafe, on the A38 just outside of Wellington? I used to deliver flour to Wellington but it was too early to stop at said cafe. It’s not far from a stone quarry.
No long gone Casey. I think it was called the Ceder’s or something like that. We never used it going from this direction,as it wasn’t on route to anywhere for us.
Cheers Dave.
It was a toss-up for us- either the Ludlow one, The Lazy Trout, or The Sycamore (known as “Fred’s”) at Prees Heath, before they built The Raven. The Sycamore was on the site that’s now occupied by that Chef/MacD/H.Eater or whatever it’s called these days. It was handy for us as it was open all night and supplied us with supper after dropping a load of cows just North of Chester.
Yes I remember the Sycamore at Prees Heath. Used to go in the Lazy Trout quite a lot when Jean & Mick Farmer ran it,a brilliant cafe for grub and nice people. Still go in the Midway and the Raven occasionally.
There was another one at Prees Heath which the coaches used, the Breckland I think, its an Indian restaurant now. The cafe at Winforton nearer to home for me was a good one. Now long gone like a lot of others.
Cheers Dave.
I used the Lazy Trout a lot years ago ,good grub.Do you remember the mynah bird SKIP, had a Brummy accent, very funny, used to say hello to everyone who came in,also barked like the owners dog.cheers Ted.

Yes Ted, that bird has been long gone. It could curse and swear. Don’t think the powers that be would allow that nowadays. Although in some eating establishments the mynah birds health would be at risk.
Cheers Dave.

We used to stay in a private house in Lancashire St. Leicester sometimes up to 3 nights per week. They had a mynah bird, all it could say was bugger of sammy, sammy was the husband of the woman that ran it.
Anyone remember Hitchinson’s Wildmerpool Causeway, Warrington. They had a mynah bird that not only knew every swear word in the book but had a bit of a Cockney accent, “Yiddle” Davis night drivers used to stay there regularly. No guesses where it learnt.
Before being by-passed Red Lodge was always busy with 3 transport cafes a pub and a happy eater. The first cafe going london way they kept the bread ready buttered in a drawer below the till and I only went in once. The next one on the right wasa modern affair and clean. Then Red Lodge cafe which was some old railway carriages and a very busy pin ball machine. Anybody remember the big old girl that went round the wagons with the newspapers? I heard she went to heaven one day crossing the road. I used to use the Four Wentways, The Coronation or Harolds for my first or last coffee according to which route out of East Anglia I was using. I never used the A12 but preferred the A131 and occasionally stopped in Alpheton. Can’t remember any of their names - bet Haddy does. Jim
Do you remember the woman who came dashing out if you parked on ‘her’ car park and went to the other cafe. Or the light switch by the kitchen door that had been painted over so many times in the on position that it could never be turned off?
