Old Cafe's

I parked in Newark a few weeks ago and walked into the town from the new? lorrypark, (I hate the T word) . The old Wharf cafe is long gone, but I seem to remember when you walked in you were met by a waitress who asked where you would like to sit and then took your order with a sunny smile. Am I right or just delusional ? Ps there was also fresh flowers on the table. Have I lost it altogether■■? regards kevmac47.

Muckaway:
What happened to the old converted bus that stopped near Honda at Swindon? I know it had to move as the B and Q warehouse was built behind the layby and the roads were altered around there.

Its parked up in Imperial commercials ,Stratton.
When the powers that be shut the lay by,Les called it a day.

Aye Kev I stopped there in 1970, they had showers & TV. Nice & warm & friendley only stopped once , I must have been tired, eh, why else would I , I worked at Shorties in those days ,it was a change fron running to Hull, when you got sent elseware. I loved it because I was used to roaming around all over the place. Regards Larry I would still do it if I had the energey, but alas I havnt so I will just have to settle for my Glenmorangies, its much easier & a bloody lot nicer to say the Im sure Harry would agree , dont you

It’s a shame really that that was all they had to eat up in Newcastle in those days. I bet they used to welcome you with open arms, Larry!

He would have been taken to a spinal injuries unit,if he had eaten catfood :exclamation:  .

Father in Law told me today that the cafe known as the Whitehouse/Crossways in Eynsham used to stand where the entrance to Handborough Road housing estate was built early '70s. Hanborough Road was blocked when the A40 was re-routed in the early ‘80s.
For anyone travelling along the A40 Westbound at Eynsham, the San Remo stood near the Evenlode, where 2 modern identical bungalows now stand. The San Remo closed about the time that the Little Chef was built on the Eastbound side (now Carringtons’ car dealership)
