Done a bit more digging, it’s not 5.8 ish mpg I’m getting. It’s 7.89!! (The target is They’ve been working it out using the fuel/milage receipts.
So why would my truck be showing only 5.8 average in the display?

4 over 4 on an 8w sounds a bit suspect; Our FEs have this and 80kmh is the absolute maximum speed you can get without going out of the green band.
But that would be a result of the final drive ratio (in the diff/s) rather than an inherant problem with an eight speed box

1550RPM gives me 91kph on mine, still well in the green.
Goldfinger:
Our company is becoming obsessed with MPG lately, they complain about we’re only getting 5 - 5.5 mpg.
Yeah, that’s because we do all urban work, with heavy plant trucks with small engines and not enough gears in the 'box!
If you’re getting under 6MPG its cos you can’t drive for toffee, even worse if you’re running a rigid.
Here we go…
Yes, it’s a rigid - '06 plate 8x4 Volvo FM380, cheese wedge plant body including twist locks, fitted with a PM50 crane.
If you know Newcastle and it surrounding areas, our depot’s in the ■■■■ middle and anywhere we go out of the depot, it’s uphill or on an incline that makes the truck work harder, very little D/C or S/C work, nearly all ‘town’ work.
Even looking at the other trucks, this time on I-shift (container carriers only), they’re only getting 5.8mpg ATM.
And your point is? I’ve done local multidrop in an artic and never got anything anywhere approaching that. In fact the only time I ever got anything like that in nearly 2 decades was pulling 100 tonne wind turbine masts.
You’re as crap a driver as a mate of mine who has bought a car off me. He tells me he only gets 40MPG driving round town. I’ve never ever seen that car go that low in the 80,000 miles I owned it.
Drive a 6x2 94d 260!!! Good motor for what we do teles, dumpers mini diggers etc. We have 4 13t 360’s which dont usually get moved too often, but when they do its always 2 trips (go back for the buckets!) Only major ballache is hills, even empty i’ve been passed by fully loaded arctics! Never worked out the mpg it does but il have to have a look, never really has an hard days work so would expect half decent figures. Oh and 4 over 4 box too.

Thats a good question.
I done a little experiment with my wagon one day few weeks back. I filled it in the moring right upto the neck of the tank, litterally the lip where the cap fits to. I went out on my daily chores and done a big circle around all the ■■■■ roads through Newton Abbot and Paington (by the sea ) up hill and down dale and back to base the other side of Plymouth. Next moring I filled it again right to the neck of the tank, it had used 110 quids worth for the day. Dint take me to long to work out from the K’s covered and converted everything to imperrial using my phone and it came to 7.2 MPG.
I then looked in the menu on the dash and it said- ■■?
7.2 MPG
It also convinced me that my maths wasnt that ■■■■ afterall

I drove some of those when I loaned myself to Hewdens a couple of years back, I thought they were a bit underpowered although they were a bit shagged out, the newer 270’s seemed a much better bet.
