hiya,
chris used to have a static caravan at glasson dock until all the treatment i was needing for the “c” thingy made owning it impractical costing a fortune and not getting used, but when i was getting down there regularly i used to drink with a laddie who was the engineer on a boat plying between glasson and the I O M it was called the silver something or other used to see it being loaded with a lot of building materials,i never took him up but was offered a trip there and back any time i fancied it, glad i didn’t take him up you would have classed me as a stowaway and that would mean no free beer and possibly a good taste of the birch.
The ship is called “Silver River” Harry, belongs to a company called Mezeron,I’ve got a photo of her somewhere in Ramsey harbour.Brings all building materials into the island.
Here she is.

hiya,
thats her chris must have been a bit a bit of a rough ride in her if hitting bad weather which is always possible when crossing Paddy’s Pond unusual to see a vessel moored starboard onto the dock though, my uncle now long deceased worked at glasson dock all his working life as the crane driver that used to load the Silver River and other shipping, quite a busy little port used to spend a lot of time just looking out to sea, all came to an end when i became too ill, thanks for the pic chris, should i get down that way again and if the boat is in i’ll have a jar with the engineer in fact he lived in the same park where i had my caravan when not on the water nice lad certainly liked his pop as did i in those times we used to have a tipple in the caravan park bar and i never knew his name, it is a few years ago now but abit of a character as are all seagoing engineers, funny how we never exchanged names, ah well.
thanks harry long retired.
Harry, harry, how could you say , I would have a go at you, I was very concerned, when I saw the water flowing through Durham the other day, I though poor old harry,if he is drinking whiskey, he might be getting too much water with it, also if he is short in stature, he may be having difficulty to keep your head above water, but then I knew you would have a few spare innertubes , knocking about the house, so I felt more at ease. A friend has lend a Vauxhall Zafferia seven seater, and my son is driving us to St. Pancras, it is funny, I said if I had not chucked my tacho’s, we could have hitch-hiked. Sandman Norman

Here’s another one of Ramsey harbour Harry, this time Ramsey steamship Co. “Ben Maye”,bulk cement being sucked out by that ex Blue Circle DAF and stored in a silo. The cement comes from Dunbar via rail to Ayr and loaded there for the IOM.She’s berthed port side to the dock. The ships don’t hang about long in Ramsey,in on the tide, tipped, empties on and away on the next tide for wherever.
Too many nights out for me and no dodgys either.

Don’t know what all this has got to do with Notts buses and M/E,maybe Norman will bring some pics back from France.I thought the middle East was Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, never taken a motor abroad except Wales and Scotland,oh,I forgot Lancashire as well.
hiya,
well chris your’e a bit like me no foreign travel other than the odd run to ireland, being a born and bred lancastrian i hope your passport was in order when entering the red rose county, does the silver river berth at the same mooring each visit had a go at spotting her via google maps i suppose she might have been at sea when the satellite took the pics, think i could pick the ben mayo out though, now over to you norm i knew you’d get your transportation problems sorted, and as for me no flooding problems i live in one of the higher and drier areas, and no water in the whiskey you should never dilute angels blood, as it comes is the only way and i’m very fond of a drop of Bells in fact i drink only whiskey with a half beer chaser, cheers norm that two quid won’t go very far if you decide to wine and dine me, you definitely would need to drag that box of ill-gotten gains from it’s hiding place and spend some of it.
thanks harry long retired.

Harry,go onto shipais.com and then Irish Sea,you’ll find all you need to know on there. To look for the ship just put the name in and whap the search button. You can get the history of previous sailings as well.Ramsey Steamship Co. ships,Ben Maye,Ben Varrey and Ben Ellan are proper coasters and go all over the place,Silver River usually Ramsey - Glasson - Ramsey.
When the ships come into Douglas for Mersey pilotage,I track them on AIS website and then look for 'em out of my flat window.
Passport always in order for Lancashire, got to be right if you’re Yorks like me.
Chris, this thread is for real old drivers, that have always done in life, what they choose to do, and the same on this thread, that is why it is interesting, and time to time we get others poping in , and adding to the chit chat, you photo’s are a joy to see, but do not put any young ladies on, or Harry might get too excited, and pop his clogs, and at this moment, I have enough expense, Ha Ha Ha. Harry, two children with me, is quite enough, without taking you. see you later alligator. Sandman Norman
hiya,
what a great shipping site chris, i’d never have found it without your help, i’m really a bit of a klutz when it comes to computing but yourself and other guys on here have introduced me to a whole new world, have always had an interest in shipping since doing three months on a coaster as a favour just before i was old enough to start as a civvy driver, got on a family owned vessel when the skippers son got injured and had to go ashore for a while, no papers needed wonder what h&s would have made of that in this day and age lived for the three months on board, wasn’t a bad mechanic (self taught) so got the job so i could look after the engine plus a bit of cooking and general deck hand thrown in and the pay was ok too, i’ve actually done the odd trip on a fishing boat out of ireland to the icelandic fishing grounds did that between driving jobs did a couple of trips doing that again for family friends on my grandfathers side hard cold life but share of the catch as wages made it very worth while, now chris what that load of chat has got to do with middle east work i haven’t a clue, old norm will end up barring me off his thread, just taking advantage while he’s on holiday, he’ll never know.
thanks harry long retired,

If you have I think you should take it with you on holiday or buy another one on route. I’m shore you being a true English man you would not jump the que.You could use it while waiting to go on the rides after all it’s more fun for the kids if you go on the rides as well and you could use it to sit on to recover after each ride.By the way on the subject of upside down rides have you packed any motion sickness pills? can I advise you not to eat big meals it would be a shame to waste all that food, mayby you could take a sick bag then warm it up later after all we’ve all got to do our bit for recycling.
I hope you have a good time, enjoy yourself mate…
Regards Keith.

If you zoom in on your mate’s ships you could see if they were doing owt,a bit like the old Ministry “silent checking”
hiya,
Chris that was the beauty of working for the the old red and rust you only had yourself to blame if the minisry men got hold of you and it was instant dismissal if you got caught, some of the private guys i’ve worked for expected you to just get it home, or just make sure you’re there for seven in the morning, them knowing you had to run bent to achieve the task, as i’ve said previously never got pulled but often wondered would they carry the can if you did get into bother, i think i already know the answer to that, in my time i’ve worked for some unscrupulous bosses most of them out of business now but very wealthy.
thanks harry long retired.
Hello lads, I’m back, the disney trip, was a big success, my two grandaughters, were on the way back from St, Pancras to Wellingborough at nine this morning, and singing its " Small, small world, people on the train was smiling, then Pap pa we love you, at least a couple of grand, but it was worth it to see their faces. But if you go to Paris, never jump into a taxi at the station, ask first, one wanted £95 to take 5 just 750m, and when we moved a street away, £40, so we walked, it took us 15 minutes to reach the hotel, London is dear, but Paris , is very expensive, money drips through your fingers like water.
