We were fretting a bit Harry, glad you are ok.
Snow on t’beach in Douglas this morning and it’s at it again now - no problem, the days are over when I had to go out in the bloody stuff and the sooner you park the car up the better.
Would you like a chauffer,I know of a good one in Northampton.

hiya,
The guy i think you mean would sell my car, he’s as bent as a nine bob note, and no jam jar would mean and my old lady having to do her rounds on the trusty old tandam.
thanks harry long retired.

No way would I sell your car, it would not be worth my while, it would have a job to make scrap value, now if you had a rolls, I might think about it, but the only roll you would have, would have tobacco in it.

hiya,
You could be right about my car being worth nowt Norm, but i paid a lot for it and at six years old although with very low mileage would’nt be worth a ■■■■■■ if i tried to sell it so the old girl will just get driven till the wheels fall off, it’s actually quite a tidy motor a Citroen xsara 2,0 ltr hdi with an auto box and drives very well the missus drives that i’ve just bought myself a little runabout a T reg Corsa with a 1.4 16 valve engine nice five door in tip top condition it drives like a new motor have to go to Newcastle tomorrow to change it over it’s rated as disabled and had free road tax and that can’t be done at the post office you’ve got to go to the DVLA office a three bus job but i’ve got all day.
thanks harry long retired.

Hi Harry,
It looks as if you have a couple of good moters there, never had a Citroen, but had four Vauxhalls in the past, three mark 3 2.0 litre cavaliers and a Vectra, never had any trouble with any of them, did 250,000 miles total with them, and if I was going to buy a car it would be another Vauxhall.Had several Fords never had trouble with them either, except one an ■■■■■■ 1.6 estate which broke a cambelt at 26,000 miles, bent four valves and cracked some rocker plates, switched to Vauxhalls after that. My other half has a Fiesta on a T plate which is a tidy little car,me I just stick to my vans nowadays, still pretend I’m in a lorry.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Got the tax on the little motor sorted today, i’m a bit like youself Dave i would have preferred a van as a runabout the only trouble with that is the missus has to use my car when her motor is being MOT’d or serviced and i don’t think she would take kindly to doing her rounds in a Trannie or similiar so like all males of the species i do as i’m told and buy a little car, what i do miss is not being able to maintain my own vehicles anymore and having to get the garage to do my serviceing and repairs when i know full well i have the knowhow but not the ability by nature of not being well enough to do the work anymore, things like cam-belt changes, clutches and even engine repairs i used to do and enjoy doing but with the combination of old age and the “c” thingy i’ve had to put the tools to one side and be at the mercy of the local garage but they do me a good deal, a friend’s laddie works there and makes sure i don’t get my eyes taken out.
thanks harry long retired.

Harry I am the same, I have got a mechanic as a friend, and he has been doing my car for at least twelve years, he knows I will check it, so he always makes a good job of it, I said how much Ron, he said pay me what it is worth, I say never, I must pay you something.    , just give me a bill, and I pay him, I can do it, but I would rather keep clean and play bowls. Has the snow reached your bedroom windows yet! :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:     :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Hi Harry & Norm,
Same as ypu fella’s,I leave everything to a mechanic, and fair play he’s a good mechanic,he’s taken care of my vehicles for years,I just do the checks and routine stuff, leave all the rest to him. I am a firm believer in regular servicing, change the oil and filters every 5,000 on my ■■■■■■ and every 7,000 on my sprinter. When I picked my sprinter up from Fareham in Hampshire when it was new,the salesman said, this van won’t need a service until its done 19,000 miles,I said the oil will be dropped out of it before its done 2,000 miles, you get all the ■■■■ and rubbish out then.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave I really don’t think you are such a bad guy ( for a welshman that is !!) .You are on my wavelength when you are talking oil changing inside the manufacturers recomendtions as I remember the first tractor unit we ran ( Mastiff 26 tonner)that was subject to a re-call due to an oil pump fault on the Perkins V8 . Anyway I took it back into the dealers and when they dropped the sump off they couldn’t believe how clean the engine was and the fitter had the rest of the lads down the pit to look!! I always maintained that an oil change was the cheapest maintainence! The oil co’s loved me as selling you one gallon of oil worth many times more to them than a gallon of derv! Our day shifters had oil and filter every 4/5 weeks and double shifters got oil and filter every two weeks !!For many years we were buying about 40,000 litres of engine oil anually . Regards Bewick.

Hi Bewick,
Thanks for posting that.I
thought everyone was dead on this forum tonight  . Always thought that oil and water is cheaper than metal, the only employer I drove for that maintained his lorries properly was Clarence Griffiths, and they still do to this day. The others I drove for had full time mechanics, they bought new lorries, the one outfit had two new Ford D800 six wheelers, the one needed new kingpins and bushes at the first test at one year old, they never saw a grease gun.A hell of a nice bloke to work for,but didn’t know a thing about transport, needless to say he packed up in the eighties.
Cheers Dave.

Yes Dave they are either all out getting ■■■■■■ or were all out this afternoon and got ■■■■■■ !!! In earlier days to-morrow lunch time was when we overan our local Boozer the very thought of it now makes me cringe !! They were the only times I came close to being drunk !! unless you count the times during the year when I attended the RHA,FTA & Motor Transport awards on Park Lane London ! But the wife looked after me in London otherwise I think I might have got my ears pinned back big style !! Cheers hic! hic! Bewick.

Hi Bewick,
Can honestly say I never bothered, like you always worked on Christmas Eve,stayed out of the pub, because I always had the lorry to come home, and I lived about six miles from my employers and the pubs. We have no pub near here, the nearest was two miles away and thats been closed with a for sale sign on it for two years. I like a pint,as it happens I have a glass in front of me now,but have never drank more than three or four pints,I’m over weight without eating and drinking to much  hic.
Cheers Dave.

Dave, get out and do some exercise, even if it is bowls, I have played five times this week, and they are two hour sessions, this is my way of keeping fit, I miss thursday, and play on friday, but this week, I will play no more until monday morning. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

hiya,
Got my annual exercise done today gave my old lady a lift doing the the food shopping one of our jaunts takes us to Marks and Spencers to spend £15s worth of vouchers an old company sends me every year been getting them for about 20 years they arrive tucked in a Christmas card, nice gaffer he still says thanks Harry have a nice Christmas and have a drink on me, I must have done something right along the way to be still thought of.
thanks harry long retired.

Harry my wife visits Marks & sparks at least twice a week, got me some long johns, whish I am wearing now, not ■■■■, but by golly they keep your hollyhocks warm :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Norm,
You can get machines now that wash longjohns, save you buying two pairs a week.
Cheers Dave.

Dave, I have a wife who keep trying to get my clothes off every time I get back in to our home in the evening, I keep saying if you want my body just takeit. :unamused: :unamused: but she pulls a face and says I just want your clothes to put into the washing machine :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :astonished: :astonished: :astonished:

hiya,
There’s one sure way of putting a stop to your old ladies washing habits, just move to somewhere hot and become a naturist, the only problem is the bowls you won’t be able to play when it gets breezy because when you bend over to let the woods go you’ll sound a bit like a penny whistle if you don’t keep your mouth shut.
thanks harry long retired.

No way am I playing bowls in the noddy, I would be scared to death, if someone fired, I could get a jack or a bowl up my rear end, or two extra bowls on the rink■■? :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:
