Not good news.

Carryfast:
If the present operators can’t make doing the job of refining and delivering the stuff pay then why does the receiver think that anyone else can.

It is the receivers job to makethe best of it. The problem is not operating costs but debt. If a new owner can be found and the business becomes free of the crippling debt burden then it may well be profitable for them. The lenders - ie the banks - will take a haircut.

The banks can’t afford to take a haircut because that will just mean them picking up the debt and then passing it on further up the line probably involving a bail out by taxpayers.

The reason for the debt on the job isn’t operating costs it’s the price left in the product after the taxman has taken his share which obviously isn’t enough to cover the operating and transport costs let alone make much of a profit.

Which is probably why the oil companies don’t want anything to do with the process of turning crude into road fuel after getting the stuff to the refinery and have offloaded that part of the job to some other mug because they know they can’t make it pay.

It 'll probably all end up with the catch 22 of more price needing to be put on the end product to cover the refining and supply chain costs which the buyers can’t afford so they’ll have to be bailed out by taxpayers cash which means even more tax being put on the end product to cover the costs caused by the excessive tax in the first place. :open_mouth: :unamused:

Not good news for me I’m afraid. Not only fuel comes out of Coryton and for the 50 DHL drivers on the Petroplus Bitumen job today may mark the end of an era. Got a meeting this morning at 10am with HR which may involve some, if not all of us facing some sort of redundancy or relocation to other less attractive and lucrative contracts within the DHL empire.
We have not worked properly since the end of December as we have had no product to ship. The crude they are using at the moment does not produce Bitumen and I do not expect them to concentrate on anything other than fuels in the future, so it seems to be curtains for now.
Anyone know any good jobs■■? I’m well qualified with all sorts of paper and cards to prove it…

Added today 25th Jan. As expected given notice that jobs at risk of redundancy and we now have a 30 day consultation period to try and find something else in the network or be canned. Bummocks!!!

As said above, it won’t close. The owners who are Swiss based have gone bust, nothing to do with the UK site. The administrater was talking to several interested parties yesterday, wouldt like to start a rumour, but who knows the chuckle brother ■■■■■■■■ cowboys might even be in the running :grimacing:

The knock on effect of this, further down the line is huge. :frowning: :frowning:
If Companies like Calor, Watsons etc have to go further for their product, the end user is gonna have to pay extra, moneys tight enough already, where’s this ‘extra’ gonna come from? Luckily we’ve had a very mild Winter, if things change, then that’s when the ■■■■■ will hit the fan.

Since the recession kicked in, oil refinery’s have cut back slightly as consumption has fallen, so plenty of slack in the system despite what the pundits will try and tell us. No doubt some speculators will try and make a buck or two on the back of it and force the price up, but how come diesel is always cheaper in Cornwall than the SE of England

Big Joe:
but how come diesel is always cheaper in Cornwall than the SE of England

Is it? I’m not doubting you as I never get to Cornwall but in West Wales where my parents live fuel costs an insane amount.

Tis a bit even stevens at the moment, but still don’t know how it works
