“Inspection last week” needs to be demonstrated by some appropriate stickers around the vehicle to that effect.
No it doesn’t. In fact even in 5 years of agency driving I don’t think I ever drove for a single firm who had stickers on their trucks saying when they were last inspected. There is certainly no legal requirement to do so.
Paul
In over thirty five years I have never seen an inspection sticker, pray tell what are they?
A 6 week inspection is a good walk round check with a tick sheet, Britain is the only place that requires them and they are basically a 30 minute look around and asked for by the TC and VOSA.
Some firms use them, Tossco for example use a week system, they display the current service week in the office, you check this against your allocated trailer (admittedlt not the unit though) any thing with a lower week number isn’t allowed out.
Should not be sensor fixed if it was known
I think trailer checks should be more thorough than a walk around, crawl underneath type check… I remember back in the 70’s when i worked for a well known Carlisle based firm with green motors, ( start guessing lads, they also had depots at london colney & airdrie ) they had mechanics, not fitters. these men would take a trailer off the road for a day, take all the wheels off, check, grease, and adjust the brakes, same with the wheel bearings. fix any other faults, and even give it a lick of paint if it needed it… Progress seems to have gone backwards.

There was nothing wrong with the sensor.
The wheel bearing had collapsed and that wouldn’t necessarily be noticed on a 6 week inspection

Yeah, but He was told that this is a sensor and they know about it so shouldn’t that be fixed ?
Vehicle shouldn’t leave the yard with an abs light on.
Second to Starfighter and Winseer.
The ABS light is there for a reason. Firms have had the best part of ten years to solve any compatability issues like: “oh some of our trailers put the light on don’t worry” ( I know this was a rigid). Rubbish, there is a fault if the light is on. An alert VOSA inspection of maintenance records will want to see what rectification followed a defect report of ABS light on, since this is a GV9 defect (see Categorisation of Defects IM 38 page 99/100 &59 page 108) I have my suspicions that either there never was any inspection, or the relevant management ignored any defect report. Perhaps the best thing to do is to wait several months and then report to VOSA that this company’s maintenance needs scrutiny. Maybe suggest they investigate any vehicles that have had to be recovered.
For those who think the risk of losing the job is paramount I would say: The OP really ought to thank thank his lucky stars he is still alive to tell the tale.
