Ben, I’m Keith Millington,Peter Millington’s lad from Whitchurch Dad run this Guy Big J out of Minera 1968/69
After a while he brought a s/h Commer 6 wheeler and Keith Hughes from Penycae drove it for him. Dad later brought a AEC artic with a Leyland V8 in it. He got forced of the road just before starting to go down the frith. Ivor and his wife were very good to him and keeped bringing him food and drinks all day until the truck was recovered. I have asked on here before for photos but none were forthcoming.
A few names for you
Wally Hughes Penycae Ford D series 6 wheeler
Jones Frodsham Leyland with dump trailer
Thomlinsons cuckoos nest
Mick Mcarthy Marchwiel
Lycitt garage on the way down the Frith brought 4 D series 6 wheelers, one to pay fuel, one to pay HP ,one for wages, one for profit. the first one ended up over the edge of the stock pile that was the profit gone. number two wrote off on road that was the wages gone…
There was a chap that ran a Seddon 4 wheeler that parked it by the old weight bridge.
There was also 2 lads that run old 4 wheelers form Minera one they called smokey Joe, he was blind as a bat and if you saw him coming you got out of the way.
Ask your uncle Brian if he remembers the cafe as you came out of the quarry onto the road by where the rail way crossed before the nursing home.
Alf that worked in the weigh bridge and Glenis the secretary
Sorry gone on a bit
Regards Keith
