Hello Dave , Yes the Atki is Abernant they also ran Thames Traders . There was also an Abernant Transport from Clydach near Swansea as well .
Regarding the Leintwardine route as an alternative to the A49 it was regularly used by Joint Motorways , John Evans and the like . A saving of about 8 miles . regards Keith

Cheers Dave.

Does that squirrel meat taste of nuts Dave?
Talking of Leintwardine reminds me that a student at Sheffield University, who had a part-time job in my local pub,was from Clungunford and she was most surprised to learn that I knew where it was.

There is a social club at Clungunford Chris which is open with a licenced bar six nights a week, with live music every Saturday. We used to go there quite often, but haven’t been for about three years, its a good place.I will get you a squirrel Chris and post it to you.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Trevor,
Yes Bengry’s had a lot of lorries on steel, also had Leinthall quarry near Wigmore with a fleet of tippers, which is now owned by Breedon Aggregates. They ran coaches and had a garage business as well which is still run by the same family.
The lorries were based at Longmoor near Kingsland. C D Owens with blue lorries was based at Mortimers Cross, also Ivor Jay lived at Mortimers Cross had a fleet of lorries.
Cheers Dave.
Bill Bengry, who ran the garage business, was quite a successful rally driver in the 1960s.

He drove in the London to Sidney rally with Arthur Brick and John Preddy in a Cortina MK2 sponsored by Motorway Remoulds from Knighton. .I remember my brother-in-law buying a car off him,he gave him a good deal and was a tidy bloke.
Cheers Dave.
