Hi There Gilbert,
Thanks for the info , Sorry to hear about Toni Valori ,another name just came to me Brian Talbot last known to be an od i actually loaded with brian in Lowestoft when he was on his own nice to hear jeff is still around he was a gem that bloke
Just come across another thread witha pic of S Sommerville’s 113 Scania with Iron Maiden artwork, its now living and working in Scotland.
I seem to remember Sommervilles operating some interesting kit, a puple & black (i think) Volvo F12 which had a Globetrotter conversion and a black Kenworth Aerodyne with skull & crossbones on the door spring to mind.
Does Sommerville still operate, I seem to remember he ran with Mr Peckham occasionally, what do you know?

Here’s another; Mayhew Freight, Kirstead, Brooke, Norwich.Peter Stephenson - complete with Farmer Giles hat and equally at home in a bellowing 205 ■■■■■■■ A series ERFc/w DB box, belt snapping two stroke Commer or D series Ford with mega long/ overhang buck.
I guess this is Peewit? Blimey, takes me back. Remember him on peas and beet, used to knock around with Tich Hagger. I worked with his son at Trevor Stearn’s about 15 years ago, until he managed to roll a forklift onto it’s side catching his leg under the roll bar as it came down. Shaun i seem to remember.
Trubrit:
How about TJ Wyatt at Snetterton, anybody got any pics of that fleet?
Got an old Truck & Driver (1987 iirc) with an article about Wyatt’s carting beet into Bury, back in the days when they used to run the converted flat trailers onto the ramp and tip the whole lot up, unit and all. Compo was with them when i started driving myself, and Wyatt’s daughter, and the older chap who ended up having the light blue Duffield’s 70/30 anniversary FM that they had.
I remember a haulier in the 60s/70s called O.J.H.Smith and they carried IIRC a lot of agricultural machinery like combines. Were they a Norfolk haulier?
Also another one from Banham,I remember Banham Poultry but wasn’t there another haulier from Banham?
Sorry if I’ve got the wrong county (like Suffolk)
And I understand Eastons are still going from Bunwell, who also had a depot in Alford,Lincs when they did milk collection in churns.
What about one of the oldest companys that ran out of Gt. Yarmouth, LG Perfect ? Surely someone remembers !
Hello mr.vane, I can remember Rickwoods, they ran several Dodges and I came accross a nasty accident involving one of them in the mid '60s. It happened on the traffic lights in Swaffham, this was when the A47 ran through the town, and involved one of Hopton Timber Company’s Fodens. It was early in the morning and I don’t recall either driver being too badly hurt but what a mess.
I think they joined forces with Tom Grange Transport of Wells- next- the- Sea. As far as I know they packed up in the late 70’s/early 80’s. In a book I have called " Views from the North" there is glimpse of one following a William Nicol’s Atkinson on page 64. I don’t miss much when it comes to photos of old trucks.
Best regards Haddy Gt. Yarmouth.
There used to be a J Drury from Cromer years ago but I don’t know whether he’s still going. They had a yard near the old station yard IIRC.
Okay Mr Vain one nearer to your neck of the woods. Howlets (I think that’s right) from North Walsham. White and green Volvos IIRC.
Anybody remember Whartons from Besthorpe or Carleton Rode, we are based in his farm yard, but he used to have several Scanias and Volvos on Bulk work apparently.
Anybody remember Norman and Cyril, they drove for Crane Fruehaufs and then Buxtons pulling new trailers, I think they spent more time in the Farm Cafe on the A17 than on the road. Both have retired now.
Stupot:
Not Many cameras in Norfolk then?
Loads of Norfolk trucks can be found on euro-wheels.com
I remember
Spandler
Fairweather
M C Clarke
Jack Richards
Tony Hudson
Yep I reckon you’re right about the lack of camera’s, or maybe the extra fingers got in the way of the lens.

Hello there LB76 Brian Talbot is alive and well. I met him at Andy Tait’s funeral a few weeks ago along with Trevor Hitter, Tony Hook,Trevor Turner, and very many more old faces. In fact there were hundreds of us there, many retired, and it was good to meet up with them again.
You might have known Andy, I first met him when he joined Humber Warehousing around '71. He also did a few years with Salvesons before starting on his own.
He was an owner driver for many years and the last motor he had was a blue and white MAN with “ANDYFREEZE” on the headboard. A singer,comedian,fund-raiser and president of East Coast Truckers, Andy will be sadly missed.

As you have said haddy, a true gentleman was Andy. I was very proud to fulfill one of his last wishes and ■■■■■■ him on his final journey. He was a true friend and great inspiration.

Here’s one: Spinks Transport. Famed for moving beams on bogies out of the Lenwade concrete factory. A book could be written about this mob. From memory… Billy Swales - TM, and amongst a cast of thousands - Fussel, Sooty, The Colonel and David Winsor ( of later Valley Services Fame ). The Guy Big J was the tool But before the end I remember the odd understated 240 F88.
Hello Sellia, I can add a few more names to Spinks’s team- Johnny Mace,Muffy,Jesus, Colin Burton, Tex,Maggot, Max, Neechie and Rex. We used to do a bit of work for each other when I was at Perfects of Gt. Yarmouth and for a while we had a trunk motor based in their yard. Last year I was at Johnny Mace’s 65th birthday party and met up with many of the old faces. Brilliant! Best regards Haddy.

Hi Chris, the haulier from Banham was probably Bullens. I think they mostly did market work and I can remember my cousin, who was a mushroom grower at Poringland, using them. He said they gave exellent service. I know they ran some Seddon four-wheelers, dark green in colour if my memory serves me correctly. A good old boy I knew who spent many years at Bartrums before retiring drove for Bullens way back in the early '60s. His name was Billy Rankin better known as “Jock” and he lived at Kenninghall. Sadly, I’m told, he is no longer with us. Regards Haddy - Gt. Yarmouth.
hi Ya Haddy,
I can remember bullens from my mis-spent youth riding up to Birmingham market in the late '60s, and i can recall jock too, had some great laughs with the - was it jock who wore the top hat a time or two?

Hello again LB76, it could have been the same Jock although he must have been at Bartrums in the late 60’s or early 70’s. I remember this because he had one of the first F88s. How many they had I don’t know but they were among the first in E.Anglia along with the one we had in 1969 at Perfects of Gt.Yarmouth. Ours was H reg. and it was a pity there was only one.
One or two more names from Wyatts,Bob Martin, Barry ■■, Ken from N.Norfolk, Barry Burrage, and many years ago Arthur “Jock” Harris was a trailer boy.I was given a photo of a Wyatt’s Scania Varbis (TVF350G) recently, along with several more old Norfolk and Suffolk motors to add to my collection.
Loading out of Aspro Nicholas in Slough in the early 70’s there was always one or two artics, single axle 12pallet trailers with I think Ford D type units running for Norfolk Haulage.Old Bill was the regular driver, his son was young Bill who worked for the same company.I was in there Tuesday and Thursday mornings same time as them.
