Fifty jobs lost in haulage firm closure

A local haulage company is closing down with the loss of 50 jobs.
Armagh-based Noel Zwecker International Transport said the economic downturn and rising running costs had put pressure on the family-run business.

It had been in operation since 1970.

A statement on Thursday said: "Noel Zwecker International Transport has decided to cease trading after more than 40 years in business.

“A reduction in trading and lack of parity in relation to fuel prices has contributed to this situation - this is a blow to the local economy that as a whole is feeling the economic pressures of recent years.”

The company transported goods across the UK, Ireland and Europe.

The statement continued: “Noel Zwecker International Transport would like to thank their staff and customers for their help and support over many years.”
