Nobody cares what you earn

Over the many years since TN has been established , there is one subject that gets everyone’s ■■■■■■■ in a twist , and that is drivers wages .
I don’t see other industries websites bragging how much they earn , you don’t see train drivers or airline pilots going online moaning on about wages and salaries , and quoting " I won’t be flying that Boeing Dreamliner to Miami for that wage , I won’t get out of bed for that rate . "

You get drivers at RDC waiting rooms harping on about their pay , nobody is interested .Trucker Joe says he takes home £1000 a week but can’t afford a shower and is dressed like Worzel Gummidge .

Train drivers and pilots instead of moaning do the proactive thing, organize themselves, negotiate a pay rise that is at least above the inflation rate on consumer goods, food and energy, and if not heard, they strike.
And from what I see, they choose exaclty the time when they are needed the most.
Some people are smart, others drive trucks and moan.

Exactly this.
We could achieve anything we want and get rid of all the crap at the same time.
I ain’t talking militant striking at the drop of a hat for every thing on a whim either, just attempting to achieve fairness in pay and t.s and c.s., and to be once more 6reated as grown ups.
Will it ever happen where drivers stick together?
Will it ■■■■. :unamused:

Drivers sticking together, there’s a novelty. as much chance of that as knocking you;re hours down and getting the same money. It is too deep rooted now and too many idiots have flooded the market. No short supply of nutters who will gladly take you’re job for less than what you are on now. Employers know this fact. It isn’t a case of striking either as they would simply get agency and foreign drivers in whilst you hold you’re bill board in the air losing money.

The guys on the old style contracts where I work get about £40k for a 50 hour week which isn’t at all bad for Class 2 work (trade waste). Before corona the union were taking the company to task about this as there are drivers who joined just after the abovementioned who are on £5k less a year.

Our employer promised to resolve it saying ‘nobody will be a loser’, which pretty much means they were going to raise us all up to the same level as they can hardly cut the pay of the older drivers. Can’t see that happening anytime soon now with all the cost cutting measures in place post covid.

That is a very bold statement for you’re boss to make. A little late in the day for a lot of drivers.

Several posts on this very website querying what is/is not regarded as being an acceptable rate for whatever job is under consideration strongly suggest that in fact “what you earn” is actually quite important to many. It may not be important to you - in which case just scroll on past. Same applies to “what is the best satnav?” type questions (and any number of other frequently posted subjects). To some this is of no interest at all, but to others it may be significant. Again, if it doesn’t interest you just scroll on past (likewise in the apocryphal RDC waiting room - just ignore it if it doesn’t bother/concern you).

It was a statement made at company level - massive multinational company. But I agree it’s unlikely they’ll backdate it (can you imagine!).

We don`t brag but its public information.

Most important to any train driver is company T&C`s

Don`t believe the media that we earn 100k a year.
