How do you fancy doing a Stobarts Run
for your first Class 1 Job my question (is it store work ie TESCO ) their answer ( yes but ) My answer NO thanks ive seen them poor buggers trying to get parked outside the stores in Blackpool ⦠
I dont think that would have been a good start would it
if it had been trunkin or traier swaps i would have had a crack at it
Well it seems to be working out for you but in my opinion youāre turning down work for soft reasons when others on here are begging.
Well if you turn down the difficult jobs, how are you gonna learn? My first class 2 job was dray work. And there aināt no bays at a pub. However, I can now reverse a 26T in a full pub car park, which some of their regular drivers canāt. My first class 1 shift was Stobarts Widnes doing a night Tesco run. So it was a steep learning curve and I took a lot longer than a veteran would have done, but Iām still here.
When I registered with the agency they asked how far I was willing to travel, it might be worth giving them a gentle reminder as to how far YOU WANT to travel?

For Whitehaven, you could have negotiated travel on top from the agent
Iāve had the agency offer me āfuel moneyā when in fact they mean a one time payment of a certain amount of money to get there and back, which equates to Ā£5. Thatās it.
Then youāve gotta prove it when you call back to query it because the agy seems to have forgotten this. Got narked off with one agency when they sent me to a job. Initially it was an afternoon for a class 2 but then it was changed to an early for a class 1, except they just termed it as a āhgv driverā without the class.
Dutifully trundled off to the company, 60 miles away as was told would be in there all week and it was long distance stuff, so expected OT to pay for fuel. Got there to be handed the keys for a shiny new Magnum 11 plate, 6x2 tractor. Returned to office and asked what Iād be doing with the tractor and they told me where to pick up the trailerā¦
At which point I pointed out I was the class 2 driver that had been pulled from the PM run and was not, in fact, a class 1. Told the agy, who said theyād pay fuel and 4 hours work.
Which they didnāt. They claimed I didnāt call in but couldnāt explain why they gave me work later in the day on a local class 2 job. Argued quite a bit over it but didnāt get the money.
Iāve finished with them now, wonāt go back to that agency but Iāve not shafted them just yet, such as taking a job and then not showing up. Iāve heard of that before. I have heard how they have tried to blame me for a few other admin mistakes with mates and usually call back and argue the corner with them but Iāll stay away from them in future.

I learned that driving is good and hauling and handballing is ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā my view if you keep hauling and handballing, you still have it all to learn mate. I get paid decent money and I drive. Unloading is nowt to do with me and thatās how like it. There is nothing clever about working harder than you have to for the same money⦠

Mikecunn hi mate i know where ya comming from mate ā¦but im 55 in may and no spring chicken
and im happy just trunking without the extra hassle of having to handball 8 cages of goods in to a tiny tesco or Spar shop after spending 20 mins trying to park near it ā¦I dont mind doing the large stores with bays ive done two runs now for spar at preston to their Blackmore depot nr brum and its a doddle even though we have to load and check the load on to the truck but once there like you say the store lads help get it off
took me 15 mins to droplast night.
Fair play to you then, it certainly seems to be working for you. I was young and impetuous and willing to do any job as long as it was Class 1. It worked for me but a lot of that was luck!
