No more honeymoon period for EV owners

One of my neighbour has got rid of her Yaris & got one of these , loves it for just popping round town , said best thing she’s ever done

Me neither , I’ve just got a 4 year old MG5 with 76k on clock and drives just as good as my 2 year old one I got rid of in January
Been serviced by the Southampton branch of the dealer I got mine from

Kia amongst other BEVs are trialling a battery passport for their BEVs that will show battery state health down to the individual battery cell, If there is any problem with a battery cell it will flag it up quickly so that a single battery cell can be replaced instead of the whole pack.

“Battery passports are not an entirely new innovation. Automakers have been testing them for a few years, including Tesla, Volvo, Audi, and several others.”

“Using an EV3 equipped with a battery cell monitoring system from UK-based Dukosi, Kia could monitor live data for every cell in the battery pack and upload it to the digital battery passport.”

“Once uploaded, drivers can access the data in real-time through their vehicle’s infotainment system. The system will automatically update after repairs for the most accurate data.”

Was article in today’s daily mail about new electric car from Dacia called hipster granted it’s only a concept but if this is shape of things to come god help us.

What is the deal with servicing, I could imagine some of the plug in diagnostics may only be available to Tesla dealerships? For an MOT or brakes then any garage is probably fine.

Changing discs & brake pads on the rear isn’t straight forward anymore! It’s not a case of going to the local motor factors unless you know what you’re doing. For instant, my MG ZS EV & more than likely all MG models have to be put into maintenance mode in the software before doing any sort of work as the sensors are very sensitive & any work done has to be calibrated by the car’s computer. Otherwise, the electronic parking brake with stick on & keep running stripping the splines of the electric PB motor as the brakes won’t be calibrated.

Even dealerships have come a cropper not doing this procedure & from what I’ve read the likes of kwikfit won’t touch electric cars brakes anymore.

I’ve got my second service at the end of this month as that seems to be the time limit limit when rear brake discs become pitted through lack of use due to re-gen braking.

I take a pic of every wheel disc & pad thickness before it goes in.

If you like changing cars regularly and are into Elon’s dashboard of a tablet (very few Teslas have proper dash-board ‘clocks’ along with the vagueries of a battery system that costs a fortune be my guest.

You’d probably have to!

Is Mercedes-Benz trying to out-Jaguar Jaguar with their new ‘Vision Iconic’ model? They all look like Hollywood villains cars.

“The Vision Iconic offers a glimpse of the luxury brand’s new era of design. It’s no secret by now that legacy automakers are struggling to keep up with the influx of new, more advanced, and oftentimes better-looking EVs coming out of China, South Korea, and other regions.

Mercedes is drawing inspiration from its past icons to revamp the brand with a fresh new look. The first thing you’ll notice is the redesigned grille.”

I was thinking it was the other way round!

 each to their own I guess

The next disruption is about to hit legacy auto & other BEV manufacturers starts in January 2026, CATLs new flameproof, explosion proof Naxtra sodium ion battery starts mass manufacturing.

They will be half the price of LFP & ternary batteries with better energy density, faster charging speeds & they will not only out live the car, they will outlive the person buying the car with a 10000 charge/discharge cycle that equates to 3.6 million miles & still retain over 80% SOH. :open_mouth:

These battery packs will be around for a couple of decades for use as home storage batteries.

It does give it a certain ‘batmobile’ aesthetic though.

If they get the approval for mass production all over? The toxic waste from that will be horrendous.

Also….The absolute “flameproof/explosion-proof” wording is pure blurb as it’s from China’s new EV battery safety standard, not across the board.

Not blurb, starting July 2026, China is setting the world’s first strictest EV battery standards with no fire no explosion rule. China sets world's strictest EV battery standard: "No Fire, No Explosion" rule effective July 2026

I think you mistyped a ‘b’ for ‘tw’
