Danneke Lady Truckers Club
HI Guy’s and Girls,
Unfortunatly the Examener fialed me because I staddled 2 lanes when aproaching a round-a-bout, he recons I should have taken the right lane but my instuctor taught us to straddle. but I’m not giving up!! booking my next test today Wed.
Does anyone know the magic round-a-bout in swindon? if you take the Cirencester exit and follow it to next mini round-a-bout, straight over you then come to a big 1 near Transfere Bridges, I had to go straight over but get into centre lane going under the bridge then right heading towards Gypsy lane, thats where he failed me!!
Never mind ah its all good experience but frustrating when you’ve been taught on thing and told another.
your views would be appriciated
Truck Shows and this weekend we are at Shepton Mallet
I Will look out for you on Saturday when Paul and I come to the show, Look forward to meeting you all
AWwww nevermind! Sorry to hear that!
Betcha breeze it next time!
Loads of luck!
Sorry to hear you failed girl.
Did you think to ask your instructor to speak to the examiner to clarify which lane is the one they favour on that test route? I wold have. And have them explain it clearly in front of both you and your instructor.
When you go for re-test take the bull by the horns and ask the examiner outright. Tell him you have a query before you go out on the road. Tell him which roundabout you are talking about and ask him to clarify which lane he would prefer you to take. When he asked why (and he most probably will) just explain the difference of opinion between your training and the test and tell him you dont want a similar occurance due to crossed wires.
Good luck for next time.
Come and say hello at Shepton
I was disappointed to hear that NLT1 had failed.
When she asked me for my view on this saga, i told her i was taught the same way, straddle the white line to stop A Hole car driver coming up either side of you…!!!
Seems that DSA examiners are not “taught” to examine the same way we are taught to drive !!!
Hopefully she will succeed next time…
See some of you on Sat at Shepton Mallet…!!!

The debrief procedure from the examiner to the candidate should start with the question ‘do you want your instructor to be present?’ Most of the time the candidates say ‘no’ but it should’ve at least been offered.
I struggle to understand how you were failed for this. On your sheet from the examiner has he marked you for a serious fault alongside ‘lane discipline’? Obviously it’s hard to accurately comment without having been there but I can assure you that during training an examiner is taught that a large vehicle (LGV!!) may have to use ‘other lanes’ due to the size of the vehicle. Even if you had ‘wandered’ into another lane, so long as no other road user was affected, it should’ve been marked as a driving fault; it should only be marked as a serious fault if it had an (adverse) effect on another road user. It could’ve been marked as a dangerous fault if, for example, another vehicle had to swerve away from you or brake very sharply to avoid a collision. If either of these had happened I’m sure the examiner would’ve been bursting to point them out.
One of the guiding phrases that they are taught is that ‘a problem is only a problem when it becomes a problem!’ If in this case, your lane straddling caused no other road user a problem and, for example, there was a DSA check-tester in the cab and the examiner hadn’t marked anything for your straddling, that wouldn’t have been a problem. That’s why I can’t understand why he has marked you down so heavily.
He could’ve actually, quite legitimately, not marked anything for it.
Seems that DSA examiners are not “taught” to examine the same way we are taught to drive !!!
Sad but true or if they were taught that way they use their own interpretations.
There was a time I would never have believed this but I am getting more and more of the mind that what pleases one examiner does’nt please another.
It seems wrong when we have to tell a candidate if examiner X takes you out then give him a good brisk drive around - get on with it but if examiner Y takes you out then take your time and give him a Sunday drive.
The whole test should be uniform and set in stone - but it aint!
Not another one …well at least shes off our backs for a bit…way things are going …well be having a ladies forum soon…get back behind the sink girl…and become a housewife like the rest of em should…and leave the truck driving to us men…
trucky start running now mate hope youve got good tin hat
i dont know many people that pass first time… i dont think the examiners like you to pass first time… dont wanna put them out of work ;o)
it took me 3 times to pass class 1… but i was glad… cos i think i really needed those extra lessons!! hehe ;o)
im in canada… going great… drove my grandads car today… first time driving on the right!
good luck for next time!!!
sorry to hear the news re your test - glad you plan to give it another go
Trucky BOY !!!
Well i guess thats what you are …!!! A BOY…!!!
Wake up and smell the diesel sunshine, move with the times…i’ve seen no end of lady drivers and have no problems with them in the mainly predominant male profession…
I had the same scenario in the forces, my trade was male only for years, then we got females and yes there was a few wasters but there were some good ones too. In fact some of them put the guys to shame…
I suspect TB, you are pooh scared of being outdone or shown up by a lady trucker !!! They may well help to give the trucker image a cleaner view…
If you cant stand the competition then find a profession where you can be on your own…
As for my NLT 1, she has done her bit for society and the family and as well as learning to drive a car she has gained her Class 2…!!! Furthermore she has managed to buy a dishwasher to give her more time to do things she wants to do…
PS…
TBoy…or is it Tea Boy ■■?
NLT is also a competent horse rider, holds a motorcycle licence, is a qualified glider pilot and speaks two foreign languages…!!!
Apart from being a qualified MCP, what other quals do you hold !!!
As for me,
Car, Motorcycle, Class 1, RTITB forks, Glider Pilot, Powerboat licence…
All with test certificates…!!!
Something you seem to be lacking…!!!
I’d say Truckyboy has a grade ‘A’ qualification in Cockerney dry humour, which appears to have gone completely over your highly inflated head!
Do you know what the significance of smileys like this
after his post mean?
Obviously not…
Truckyboy, like many others on here, has more driving experience than you, your partner and probably me as well (but only just ) could ever achieve and is a well - respected member of this forum.
As for listing ‘qualifications’ - well I’m sure that just like myself a high percentage of TruckNet members are more than ‘just’ qualified to drive LGVs.
It’s just that we find it crass and ignorant to list them on a public forum, thats all.
