It sounds a little off for me to say welcome baring in mind this is my first post but I signed up yet I still can’t cure my itch for two years

Is that because you are age 16 ?

Yes, is this where I say goodbye to my account? :stuck_out_tongue: :unamused:

Not at-all, we’ve had younger than you on this board, so feel free to stick around and participate

We appreciate valuable input whatever age you are.

However the opposite is also true.

Good to have youngsters who are interested in the industry.

And good to have someone younger then some off us to deflect the ■■■■ taking away from us . Only joking welcome along and don’t believe all you read driving on its good days is hard to beat and even on a bad day there’s worse jobs so don’t let any off it put you off if you want to become an lgv driver .

Awesome, that’s nice hearing about a place only in Corby as that’s only a 40 minute drive from where I am.

Best of luck to all of you taking your theories and your lessons. I’d love to hear your stories

Hello all , how are we doing today? You all enjoying the heat? :sunglasses:

Wednesday had finally come and its my medical this afternoon, I have already made the mistake of not peeing in that pot first thing and wasted the first pee of the day. :unamused:

I will have to be drinking a lot of tea/caffeinated drinks now to build it up again. :grimacing:

I was wondering if anyone can fill me in on what they exactly do during the examination?

Also for the pee sample, do you have to fill the pot or just have some in there such as half way?

The doctor only requires enough urine to do a test, which if I remember correctly involves putting a small test stick into it to see if the stick changes colour.

The rest of the medical involves the doctor asking you the questions on the form and then ticking the boxes according to the answeres you give him/her, he/she will test your blood pressure and give you an eye test which simply involves reading the letters on a Snellen chart.

Give or take a few minutes I think mine took about 20 minutes.

I dont think a urine simple is required anymore. If you look at the new D4 form it does not require a sample.

Oh, and welcome.

Just had my medial today and the Doc requested a urine sample. 4th question down on the front of the D4 asks about it.

Hey I’m ainsley or ‘jeff’ as some people call me lol. I am also studying for my theory tests which is booked for 7/8/13 so not thy far away. It would be good for anyone to tell me what books/DVDs/CDs/apps you are using to help study for the theory’s.

Thanks

‘Jeff’

The NEW D4 form doesn’t require a pee test but the eyesight test is a lot more rigourous. Both types of form are currently in use and accepted by DVLA.

To indentify, the new form has the front page devoted to eyesight.

THE MEDICAL HAS BEEN DONE AND CLEARED IT 100% !!! PART 1 DONE! :sunglasses:

Most people know this but I will write down my experience today for others who may not know about it.

I first went in and was taken to the nurse section by one of the office staff, I had my height and weight recorded and given to me on a slip of paper.
Then I waited about 5 mins, was called into my doctors room.

First - She checked my urine sample by putting a stick into the pot and reading the colour codes.
Second -The eye test which was a board like in opticians and stood with her back against the wall , then read them with one eye covered then the other with my hand.
Third - Blood pressure with a arm squeezing device which she did twice.
Fourth - Listened to heart beat.
Fifth - Listened to my lungs and breathing.
Sixth - Was checking the abdomen for things like an aneurysm which comprised of a tummy massage while laying down on the patient bed with your top lifted up. ( Best part  )

The rest was just answering a few questions and then that was it , I left it with her to fill out the rest of details and her details and its ready to be collected after 12pm tomorrow
The form I had was the old format which DID require a urine sample.

Quite pleased I am fit to drive LGV’s , health is 100% plus my doctors records are now fully updated after like 6-8 years and I know in myself that I am Okay heathwise :sunglasses: .

“Sixth - Was checking the abdomen for things like an aneurysm which comprised of a tummy massage while laying down on the patient bed with your top lifted up.”

never had that on mine, she just did the first ones and kicked me out.

Good to hear it went great  Now for your theory :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m going to ask a quick question just for curiosity do some training schools lend you revision material or do you personally buy it, checked in a shop and it was like £17 which shocked me because it didn’t have much weight to it, however I guess £17 isn’t too much…

That is odd, Unless my Dr has ulterior motives :open_mouth::sunglasses:

Thank you mate , Yeah now to blast through that when my licence comes back
A few places I’ve spoken to said they offer you material to learn from if you take a course with them on a hire out set up, but personally I went to W H Smiths weeks ago and bought the DSA Official Theory Test Book for Large Vehicles + DSA Official Guide for Driving Goods Vehicles + Highway Code for £27.99.

In my opinion its always good to have the books there in case you forget anything in the future and can refer back to it.

Here is my next update for you all the read from yesterdays events:

Collected my D4 form from my Dr’s and got all the bits needed such as the D2+D4 , Licence and Counterpart.
I then decided to call the DVLA just to go through everything and double check it was all in order before I post it and I wish I DIDN’T!!!

I spoke to some male from the DVLA telling me that my forms ( D2 + D4 ) are out of date and they might get returned because of that reason alone as the criteria has changed.
I also might have to pay my doctors the fee again to fill out my medical and go through it all over again! :imp:

(Prior to booking my medical I phoned the DVLA and spoke to some woman and filled the D2 form with her over the phone and she told me the forms are still accepted and its fine.)

Starting to get very angry I called them again and spoke to the medical department, She said a similar thing and said to speak to my doctors and see if they can re do the form for me free of charge. Getting more angry now…

So I phoned my Doctors and told them the situation and the Practice Manager said to me to send it anyway and if it gets returned because I have the Pre May-2013 forms then the DVLA are at fault and they must pay for it instead.

(There is no information on the DVLA website saying the old forms are not accepted so surely it must make them acceptable.)

After speaking to my doctors , I raged a bit , had a few Cigarettes and then called the DVLA again and spoke to some guy on the licencing enquiry line who transferred me back to the Medical department.

I told her the whole story and she told me that they are still accepting the Pre May-2013 D4 Forms and its totally fine.

Now after all that , I thought screw it, I bagged it all together and went down the post office and sent it Special Delivery which according to the tracker was signed for at 4 am this morning by the DVLA. Now I am playing the waiting game to see if it will come back okay or rejected which really Is not a good feeling. :unamused:

I can’t understand what is going on with the DVLA but its a total joke! Isn’t it their job to know these things for sure?

Also I don’t suppose anyone else knows if these forms have still been accepted recently?

Any news from DVLA?

GREAT NEWS!!

I got my licence in the post yesterday with all the provisional entitlements you can have at this stage! ( A , BE , C , C1 , D , D1 , GH ) .
It only took one week at 3 days as well. Such a relief they did accept the old forms and now I can drive a truck or bus or even a tank… Provisionally :sunglasses:

Now the ball is back in my court I can finally get things under way to getting qualified WOOHOOO!

Now I am guessing I gotta book my Theory 1a and 1b and Mod 2 right?

I am really itching to have a go in a truck now so can I do a assessment drive now if I wanted?

Don’t delay! Book a test! It can take up to THREE!!! weeks to wait for it!
I have been studying hard to get closer to 100% pass rate, then decide to book a test and had to wait for three weeks! Wasted time. That’s why there is a point to book a CPC Module 2 test as well for same day. If you know theory, you’ll be able to do Mod 2.
Unfortunately you have to pass Mod 1a and Mod 1b which is Driving Theory before you can go for Mod 3 which is Driving Practical.

Hey everyone , Its been a little while since my last post so I’ve revive my thread to tell all what’s been happening.

First of all , STUDYING…AND…MORE STUDYING; kinda feels like I am back at college and school again

I purchased the DTS Hazard Perception and DTS LGV Theory/Multiple choice tests to practise on my Laptop , It set me back £40 but hell it is worth it and wouldn’t be without it now. Its a great confidence booster when you complete the mock tests and have Passed it. It also gives you the feeling that you are getting somewhere and that drives you forward in itself.

The books I bought a while back are great to take the information in with to begin with; At first I was surprised of how much there was you need to know and off the top of your head when it comes to the tests and while you are working as a trucker.( May explain why alot of drivers out there think they are not getting paid enough I suppose  )

Another great thing Is having people there to edge you on and support you in this whole task. Without having people around you to give you that kick up the ■■■■, it does make things alot harder, which in some cases I feel for those who are on their own while learning to be a trucker or have been in the past.

I already know now that " oh im gunna be a truck driver just like that, its easy " is a crock of Poop!!! , There is way more too it than that and what is involved. You really need your heart set on it else you are wasting your time and money in my eyes.

As for my revising for the Theory side of things I can say that I’ve been hitting the pass marks on both tests on the programs quite easily thanks to the studying.

My Multiple choice, Hazard perception and CPC has now been booked a few weeks ahead and spread over a little gap from each other so I can really nail the top marks.

Hazard Perception: 27th August

Multiple Choice: 5th September

CPC Case Studies: 10th September

My reason for doing it this way is so I can focus on each individual one closer to each test and not rush it. Some may not agree with my method but I find it works best for me.

Hope you enjoy the read and can relate to it

… and that’s all that matters! Good luck with the theory tests. Pete
