Truckulent lives in dream land, he’s also a bit of a numpty IMHO.
I think the rates at Maritime were ok, used to come out with a decent wedge at the end of the week, ok I did the hours, but considering I was away all week anyway, I’d rather be getting paid than parked up spending.
Not like it was hard work, and there’s no deductions for breaks etc, so 55hrs may = £6.81, but most places would only pay you 51 1/4 hrs for that time, which - if it’s 385 now - is £7.51 per hour.
But, considering that you get 11hrs a day holiday pay, so on your hols you still get £77 per day. And if you’re in work, you get the meal allowance too of £50 / week tax free (don’t think you get this if you’re on hols), that makes 435 for 55hrs = £7.90 or if you were deducted 45mins a day like most places £435 for 51.25 = £8.48.
You get a microwave and fridge in your truck, so don’t have to spend a fortune out either, can stop and nuke some noodles or porridge or whatever = saving money too.
Wouldn’t like to do the curtain sides for that money, but for boxes, it’s a pretty decent rate in my opinion.
A dreamland where I earn more…indeed it must seem like I work in Nirvana compared to some of you lads that think unless you work your ■■■■■■■■ off for 6 quid an hour you aren’t a proper trucker…so who’s the numpty■■
If you’re really happy with £6.82 an hour, I know of a paper round going…lol
Sorry mate, slow reply as I was counting my money…takes me longer than it takes you as there’s more of it…
Won’t bother mentioning again as it pains me to see some of you struggling to justify the fact that you get a good shafting from the company every week…

Most of us are paid into bank, and usually the correct amount, so we don’t have to count it - think that makes us better off with all the time we save??
I think being S.E. and doing the invoicing, accounts, no holiday pay, waiting to get paid, counting all that money, I’d rather take the job above
If I was better off being employed I would be!! The fact is that on the appalling wages some drivers are on I could take one week in four off and still earn more…I can understand working for ■■■■ all if you’re desperate…it’s being happy with it and defending it that makes me laugh…you carry on fella if you’re happy, it’s all that matters…
It would appear that you are the one with the ruffled feathers Truckulent. I haven’t even got any feathers. I don’t earn a fortune from driving but then I’ve only just started in this game and it’s not my only source if income. I’m happy and that is priceless.
I was just pointing out that you’re a little bit obsessed with money. 99% of your posts involve money in some way followed by a boast about your own earnings. That’s fine, you can post what you like, I certainly do (if Rikki will let me). I was just trying to alert newer members to what you’re about; money and not much else.
Most of the “help” I’ve seen you give newbies is also money related. “Don’t take that job, the wage is crap.” or “Don’t work a day for free to get your foot in the door, ya mug.” Very helpful, I’m sure.
I think you should relax a little bit, stop counting your money and enjoy the other things life has to offer. Maybe then you’ll realise that money really isn’t that important in the grand scale of things.

His invoice wouldn’t prove anything, doesn’t mean he gets paid it, he’s the 1st to not get paid when a firm goes bump, that’s why they ‘agree to his rates’.
Also, I don’t work for £6.82, or whatever, but have done, as I’ve worked for Maritime, don’t care, job was easy and had a damned good take home every week, you’ll also see that I said I wouldn’t like to do the curtains for that money, as that wouldn’t be such an easy job.
I’ll admit, I’m a lazy person and would rather do an easy job for a lower hourly rate than a hard job for a higher hourly rate, my mate is the exact opposite, which works for us
mark h:
clifton do youhave a permanent motor ? if so reg ■■ our yard is next to maratimes in liverpool my mate works in the office there too, will keep an eye open for ya
no i dont mate im cab hopping for a while thats why im being sent to liverpool for 2 week
ok i can see how a thread about having a new job and a little update about how im doing can turn into a slanging match about rates / wages its just willy waving i could be on 50 quid an hr and someone would still com on and say thats ■■■■ bla bla bla
truckulent im happy with the wages can pay all bills and have a little bit left over money is not a major issue as the wife is in a decent paid job too and we dont over stretch ourselves but the main point i have with you is if your s/e and getting great rates fairplay you crack on but dont go slagging other lads wages to make yourself look good
I’ve noticed the ESL threads on here all go in the same place. Moderators, can Truckulent have his own “I earn more than you” thread so he doesn’t have to bore the rest of us by telling us what he won’t work for.
And Truckulent, before you have a pop at me, trust me, when it comes to money I’m way above your league. I do my job because I enjoy it, not because I have to.
Sent from somewhere… Not sure where exactly but I’m probably only a bit lost

Well said mate, cant understand why he’s had to comment.
I’d love a job at maritime, I’m on containers at the minute running out of freightliner leeds, but I’ve only got 11 months experience on class 1.

Ok fellas, you lads carry on with your poor wages…
Any employer reading your posts would think ‘■■■■ me, what a bunch of unambitious no hopers…’ I’ll get them driving for me and make a fricking fortune out of them’…they’re quite happy working for nowt…more profit for me…
I’ve always been self employed fella…20 odd years…I have an accountant and a registered business matey…I don’t ‘think’ anything pal, I know what I can and can’t earn from driving, what expenses I can claim - it’s why I do it part time not full time…no one can make me redundant, if I don’t want to take a job - I don’t have to…fancy a day off? No problem, my decision…holiday pay? No worries as I earn enough when working to cover it…And yes, if I don’t like the rate - I don’t work…fact is though they know that and don’t even ask unless the rate is decent…I still get work…so I must be doing something right.
The reality is that if you build up a decent reputation with clients over a period of time, they trust you. They are prepared to pay you that bit more to the get the job done well. They know that, the job will get done, the truck will be returned in good order and the ■■■■ will not be taken…In short the job is done properly. Occasionally I do agency…but mostly I work direct as there is more trust and profit in it that way…lots of you do the job well I’m sure…if so you could be making so much more out of it…You need a bit of nous to make it work though…something lacking in some quarters on here…
And you know what? They will pay over the odds for that - especially when they’re desperate because the regular lad won’t go out because it’s windy or snowing (happens a lot that one). Lads that, (and I don’t blame them) won’t risk going out at £6.81/hr in poor weather for example.
I wouldn’t expect you critics to understand that though as you need to be able to see beyond a shiny cab and the sad mantra that ‘it’s ■■■■ but better than no job’ that gets spouted on here so much.
All ■■■■■■■■ aside… So many drivers on here could do the same as I do. But they don’t. They could do the same job and earn loads more…but they don’t. It’s just not for everyone being S/E. Most on here frankly, have the wrong attitude to be successful as a S/E driver or anything else. It’s a shame as all your families would benefit…never mind…leaves more work for those of us that do it…
I don’t know where this £6.81 crap comes from. I work at maritime and we get £7.91 for 55 hrs, some tax free by way of a meal allowance, and £10.25 an hour after. I did 71 hours last week, so that’s still £8.44 an hour combined. To gross a quid short of £600 before nights out, when I only do about 3 hrs work other than driving in a week, which was 37 hrs last week, is a fairly good wage in my eyes for a paye job, and a hell of a lot better than stobarts as you stated. I did ltd co a few years ago, and for me the extra £150 a week I was scamming from the tax man for myself (legally I must add) wasn’t worth the agg of self assessment and vat returns, nil paye contributions yet you still have to fill forms out to prove you don’t employ anyone of a taxable wage, so I’ll take my paye job anyday

Nice Trucks N time away from the enemy oops wife…Win Win for me.

Whether you generally agree or disagree with “Truckulent” he points out some real truths in this post. Hard as it may be to accept… if we are all truthful with ourselves and read it properly…they are difficult… if not impossible to refute IMO.
