New Job

mucksavaga:
And I think I coined the phrase ’ keyboard warrior’ on a post about Leon, I might be wrong. AGAIN

You ARE wrong, AGAIN.
The phrase ‘keyboard warrior’ was coined many, many moons ago. Long before you knew Leon existed.

The earlier exchange of banter between you and Raymundo, was extremely close to being removed, but apologies had also exchanged and accepted, or so it seemed, so I left them.

It would seem that truck drivers are fairly mild mannered in comparison to sailors however. Perhaps its the extra time sailors have, sitting around waiting for a port to appear over the horizon, to invent insults. If you both can’t rain yourselves in a little it might be better if you stick to books.
We’ve just about had enough of it.

Excuse me but please refer to Mucksavaga’s original post!!!
The only time Mucksavaga has been mild mannered was when he made the so called grovelling apologies (which by me was acknowledged but maybe not accepted) then he makes even more disparaging statements.
Delete the whole thread if you like, beginning to wish I had never started it but I thought it might be of some interest to some people who do not think that trucking is the only thing that keeps this planet revolving around the sun and those that dont think the sun revolves around their inflated ego and their ignorance.
Referring back to Mucksavaga’s first comment ask yourself would you like to be called a ‘scab’ with absolutely no evidence to back this up!!!
I thought personal attacks were to be discouraged and removed

I’m interested in the seafaring stuff, about ships going to places etc.

I’m only home Thursday night to Sunday morning and don’t have internet access when I’m not home.
That exchange with Mucksavaga was started and appeared to have finished while I was away. So I left it.
It was water long under the bridge by the time I returned.
On every post there is a ‘report’ button. If you feel that ‘banter’ has been taken a step to far, click it. An available mod’ will see a post has been reported and will investigate. Then take any action they feel is needed.
When I looked, there were no reports by you on any post, so I took it you were accepting that apology.
The system is there for you to use. Is it my fault if you choose not to use it?

Didnt think Raymundo has said “anything” was your fault!!!

In fact, I cant even see where he may have complained to you or anyone else in the first place!!!

Its an interesting thread, with a couple of “salty old seadogs” having a ■■■■■ fight in the middle of it!  …unless somebody (or bodies) seriously complain about it then its best left to run its course, as most threads naturally do!

He didn’t, until he pointed out bits of what he considered my job.

My thoughts exactly which was why I’d left it. until the ■■■■■ fight looked like it might start up again.

Oops  just found it, but looked hard enough first

mucksavaga:
Thats bloody typical, two smellies ganging up on a king charles!!. Now let me guess…
.Are you an ex FISHERMAN? ?
Do you live with people who have a legit BRITISH PASSPORT and English is the ‘MOTHER TONGUE’? And don’t mention it has a Red Ensign. .

About size, i was on the Shell Linga (4 months jeddah) and the Rapana. An Ore carrior from Brazil to Taranto in Italy
You go on ships to see the world . Not Teesport

Or presumably Scarborough

I was brought up between Hull and Goole, both busy with lots of maritime history and employment. During my school years I was often caught reading a Joseph Conrad book. The sea wasn’t far from my thoughts and I was selected to attend 2 weeks Artificer training at HMS Caledonian in Rosyth followed by a further 2 weeks at Gosport. I cant remember whether it was Sultan or not.

Trinity House Naval School was on my doorstep and it was a cruel twist of fate that prevented me going there.

John Prescott (the ex Cunard steward & waiter) was getting in on the politics and free lunches.

Never mind though. I am enjoying this thread, transport is still moving goods around, whether that is potash, gravel or tinned toilet rolls, whether it is in ships, lorries, planes or trains. It catches my interest, it must be the artificer experience that taught me that, plus my leisure time spent on wind fed schooners.

This thread has become like the Stobart threads, someone posts something interesting, and judging by the page views it wasn’t just me reading it.

So a coaster is the M62 equivalent to a bulk tipper and we know everyone wants to drive a blinged up Scolvo.

Carry on Raymundo. Teesport or Taiwan, Scarborough or San francisco!

Thanks for continuing to post raymundo & dave75,interesting & enjoyable reading especially the west coast stuff & weren’t the Mallaig RNLI lads fantastic? As are all the RNLI for that matter. The only charity I contribute to personally

Fortunately I was on leave when she ship broke down, but kept a close eye on the situation via the AIS program with bated breath, it was a very close call for the ship as there was a South Westerly gale blowing her closer and closer to the rocks of the Isle of Mull. The lifeboat could only hold her against the wind until the salvage tug Anglian Prince got hold of her and towed her to Stornaway where the engine was fixed. For the engine techies here the problem was the exhaust valve assembly which is a complete unit that can be removed for cleaning, reseating etc. The holding down bolts decided to part company from the cylinder head and the whole lot was ejected from the head at the speed of light, slight exaggeration by the engineer but thats what it seemed like at the time he later told me.

ps. The Anglian Earl is one of three rescue and salvage tugs strategically placed around the UK coasts which our illustrious leaders in Westminster have decided to axe due to cost cutting. The previous rescue the ‘Prince’ was involved in was with a brand new £10 billion nuclear sub on trials that decided to plonk her self ashore just to the seaward side of the Kyle bridge in a well bouyed and marked area. Her sonar etc can detect targets 10,000 miles away (allegedly, but couldn’t detect the sea bed just a few feet beneath her).
Even my cheapo portable electronic navigational system can detect and sound an alarm if the seabed or other navigational hazard gets to close.

Quite nice condition for an old lady

My ‘shed’

Most important piece of kit is next to the radar

The cook, dont upset this chap cos you will never know what he’s mixed in with the mashed spuds!!

Offending engine with chief engineer who could listen to it running and using a large screwdriver against his ear and the blade to each part could tell if all was well inside (like a stethoscope)

((If any of these pictures offend anyone on a truckers site I shall remove them.))

Cheers Flip (and everyone else that’s interested), I didn’t want to ramble on about ships because I know this is not what this forum is about but it’s nice that there are folk that are interested.

And yes Raymundo, I find your pictures terribly offensive :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re right about not messing with the cook! I sailed with one who wasn’t quite the full shilling and the boys had been winding him up about something. He snapped and said in deadly seriousness “Just remember, I could poison any one of you any time I want.” With that the room fell silent. There was also another cook who was caught using the cheese grater from the galley to remove dead skin from his feet… :open_mouth: Oh and another who used to sweat a lot and if you were brave enough to go and visit him in the galley you could watch the sweat drip off his forehead into the bowl he was mixing while he spoke to you.

There’s actually quite a few similarities to working at sea and being a lorry driver. A lot of things people complain about on this forum to do with the haulage industry are also similar problems at sea eg over regulation and bureaucracy, standards of foreign drivers, being away from home, crap food, RDC’s (try being on an offshore supply boat on hire to Asco in Peterhead), training and certification and also the way transport offices treat their drivers. At sea a typical example of that would be- ‘Sorry, we know you’re at the end of your trip and want to come home but we can’t find a relief for you so you’ll be staying on until we do’.

Have to agree entirely with all you say, apart from the ‘offensive’ bit.
Theres a lot of similarities but when you’ve done your stint behind the wheel and turn in the bed stays still

Oh I dunno, I can sleep better in a force 9 than when a fridge parks next to me!

So that’s why they say your feet smell cheesy

Oh and the dripping chef could come in very handy. I hate undersalted food, especially vegetables

If anyone complains about this interesting thread on a transport forum, send him up to Middlesbrough to see Ricki, maybe he will push him into Tees Dock. I can’t believe the audacity of Toby to complain about the thread topic

Btw, its next to the ‘quote’ button, which gives you this effect ^
You can then edit anything from the post you’re quoting, as long as the
