WTF is wrong with people on here?? We are all supposed to be on here because of a common interest or work and it always turns into a hateful and personal slanging match, i just don’t get it, there’s some good people on here (ie switchlogic) and whenever they post something they always get bombarded with personal attacks, most of which seem to stem from the same people (ie robk). Why does it always have to come to this? The OP wanted advice from other recently qualified drivers on what they think of the job, not to witness people assassinate people’s personalities. This for me should really open up the eyes of the OP as to what the other people are like in the industry. I, for one, am more than happy to be working at 3663 away from RDC waiting rooms, truckstops and docks if this is the type of person i would be presented with, and it’s worth dealing with the cages, high st deliveries and bit of graft if I’m able to avoid such people. No wonder you all have such a depressing view on the industry.
To the OP, if you require some more info on 3663, not some drivel made up by people who havnt done the job then feel free to pm me! I can also give a view on my time on distance haulage.
Me get angry with you Rob on here? Never. You make me smile, your entertaining. I like our little ding dongs! As for predictable posts your as guilty as me. First you realise you haven’t read it properly so try and dig yourself out. Second you trawl thousands of posts to find one to back yourself up (your admittedly quite good at this). Third in an attempt to patronise people you start calling them kid hoping to belittle them. Then finally when ‘princess is rattled’ ( ) you resort to attacking people’s English. Just like the rest of us Rob your as predictable as a clock.
Loved this final bit though-

If people don’t want their ill thought out or blatantly wrong comments challenged then they should think twice before writing them…
Rearrange these words, since your so very good at English-
Dose medicine take your a own of
Have a lovely evening, thanks for making me smile!

Not at all, but I have a long memory and was pretty sure you had written something quite to the contrary at some point previously. A couple of choice keywords in the search box proved my suspicions to be correct after a couple of seconds.
Third in an attempt to patronise people you start calling them kid hoping to belittle them.
I don’t know why you and others keep whining about this. There is nothing derogatory about it and is in fact just another way of saying pal/mate/bud/fella here in this part of the country. I don’t do patronising; if I’ve got something to say I’ll just say it.
Then finally when ‘princess is rattled’ ( ) you resort to attacking people’s English.
Maybe if The Pot didn’t wrongly accuse one of not reading posts properly then such retaliations would not be necessary.
I think it all depends on the company you land yourself with. Some jobs are just brutal while other jobs are a piece of ■■■■ like getting money for old rope.

Try a job with a firm who just uses their own lorries delivering their own goods , own account work , one
of the best easiest jobs I have ever had was own account work for a packaging company , it was my
first full time driving job , only left because new transport manager came in and farmed it out to local
haulage company and handed back our leased lorries , I would probley still have been there now if
DrewHughes specifically asked for the opinion of new drivers. What he got was a load of negativity from not-so-new drivers. Some people should resist that uncontrollable urge to post comments on every single thread on this forum, especially when their opinion is not wanted and completely irrelevant. Drew was already well aware that this place is riddled with negative old men who think having to peel their inflated backsides off the drivers seat is a massive hardship. You might have to move a few cages around or get a bit dirty in-between sitting on your arse for hours, so what? Get a grip and chill out. The job is a doddle.
With all due respect crab moosh, asking new drivers what it’s ‘really like’ is like asking a fat kid what fizzy pop and chocolate are like. He knows that they taste great but he hasn’t got the foresight to see the implications further along the line. It’s a public forum of which experienced drivers are free to put there two penath in. The tone of your post may well reflect the colour around your gills, we’ve all been there and maybe in a few years you will realise how comical your post was
The job in general is easy. Some aspects of it are harder than others, but usually only physically. If you can read a map, and know where you are then thats a good start.
Most people you meet (in my experience) are ok, though I’ve met a few where their heads are clearly a long way up their k holes. Just don’t let it get to you, the same goes with the numerous amount of idiots on the roads, best thing is let the idiots get on with being idiots, and do what you need to do.
Cammack:
Hi all. I’ve been driving 10 months now, got my artic license doing bulk tipper work.
I used to work with BMW, shop floor manager in a factory running an area. Basically I got fed of the idiots and decided with help from a mate (offered me a job) so I’m now driving!
So far I love it, easy work, decent pay, every now and get you get an awkward a hole, or a dodgy tip but all in all, the radio keeps me company!
So… If you fancy it then give it a go. Having the license is also very handy as before long I anticipate a shortage of drivers die to grandfather law now not in effect and older drivers not interested in driver cpc
fair point!
Don’t hold your breath on that score. The gaffers will just import some more migrants. Whilst we’re in the EU the working man can only look forward to a regular application of vaseline!
To the OP! It’s a doddle driving the heavies!
As Luke said earlier! Drive from A-B to C and that’s it as long as you stay within the regs for hours and vehicle! And let the planner knacker your shift! Because they usually will!
Oh! I forgot to say! I’ve been driving class 1 for 4 years now at Stobarts!
But I did multi drop in London for 8 years on Van and Class 2 before that!
it can be a very stressfull job ,one of our younger lads was in a right mood when i met up with him today, there trialing running with half empty diesel tanks as they believe the saving in weight will improve m.p.g[i kid you not],he left before me heading for rdc with half a tank, said he kept looking at gauge thinking im not going to get there and back, when he got there he rang depot and said he didnt have enough diesel to get back, they suggested he put £50 pounds in of his own money and theyd give it back out of petty cash[dont carry company diesel cards],he said didnt have any money on him,so eventually got to nearest company depot[averly],they sent him on a wild goose chase and a hour later he finally got some diesel,i left a hour later to do same run, asked me what fuel had i got left ,where did i fill up,told him 1/2 tank and filled up at depot before leaving [wouldnt leave without full tank,no chance of doing run on 1/2 tanl whatever they say] ,hes now going to tell them too,no full tank, truck doesnt move,oh the joys of being young .

With all due respect, I think you missed the point of my post. I openly admitted earlier that I only have 5 weeks driving experience, I am as green as they get. I certainly don’t claim to know all the ins and outs of the job. I do however have 10 years of experience doing other jobs prior to driving for a living and I know the difference between hard work and easy work. The OP wanted the opinions of guys like me who have just started in this game. If he wanted the opinion of the old hands he could have just looked through the history of this forum, and judging by how he worded his question, I think he already did. You’ve as much right to chip in but there are times when it would be best not to, it’s old news and it gets boring after a while.

Silveys fuel stop is easy enough to find! Only has to ask most drivers around Thurrock area Ady!
Half tank! Where’s that one come from then? Newark!
peewee:
like the topic starter i have motor trade experience so nowt stoppin me investing in a 7.5t truck for example and doin vehicle colections or recovery etc ect
Except an operators licence, an operating center, having about £8k “emergency fund” per vehicle…

I have followed this thread most of the day! It’s not often I have [zb]all else to do but hey ho, today I have.
First, I have been around the transport/haulage ind for as long as I can remember. I was shunting trailers around my dad’s place on my own aged 11! I passed my test 9 days after my 21st birthday, which is nearly 25 years ago. I have grown up with drivers, I’ve seen them come, I’ve seen them go! I’ve had the privilege to have been around some good blokes! Since reaching out on my own many years ago, I’ve worked for lots of company’s, in all aspects of the industry. I have to say the guy above with 5 weeks HGV driving exp speaks sense and has the sort of level headed att the profession needs!
Having an HGV has always afforded me a living, I have never been out of work! Go for it! Get it done
Luke, take no notice of these bell ends! I for 1 enjoy your vids! Especially the one where you change a wheel
DrewHughes:
would make a change for me always being rushed off my feet to just having a nice chilled out life
I myself do find it a very chilled out job but be warned you may have some hate directed at you over that statement from a good few drivers who think it’s the most stressful job on earth!
Totally agree with swithlogic your driving a truck not getting shot at in Afghanistan now that’s a stressful job.
