Will using age verification stop all kids access to ■■■■ sites?
No.
Will it stop some kids accessing to ■■■■ sites?
Yes.

Is it likely to be a significant risk to those using it?
Some risk, yes, but no more than many other sites that store details.
Data breeches do happen, but not that often compared with the amount of successful and secure transactions that take place.

Is it part of a gov scheme to harvest data about us the citizens?
I think there are other easier ways to do that if the gov was so minded.

I can see a benefit in stopping some kids getting to see stuff too young.
The risks are small compared to the benefits.

If any individual thinks the risks are too great? Don’t participate. Do without your free ■■■■.
Or pay for it…on line…using…a credit card…
But please don’t cry and whinge that you don’t get a freebie dose of ■■■■.

Haven’t seen anybody ‘‘crying’’ about it tbh…or ‘‘whinge’’ for that matter.
I opened the thread as a point of discussion,.and from a lighthearted pov.
Don’t you know how forums work?

As for govt ‘‘schrmes’’ as you put it…
Everybody knows and the astute are aware whenever the govt raises it’s’ head something is always behind it.
Others choose to ridicule this by shouting conspiracy theory, just go along with it and take it on face value.

Which is why I am here.
Good topic. Open to different viewpoints. I am giving mine.
One of my opinions is that some are whinging about having to do a one off log in to get their free stuff.
That is how forums work. Not everyone agrees.

Yes.
Sometimes there is a hidden agenda, true.
But there is not always a hidden agenda.
It looks clear to me that some good can come from making access to ■■■■ just a tiny little bit harder for adults and a fair bit more difficult for young kids. I see a benefit for children.

If a gov really wants to find out more about people they have easier methods to do so.

Ok fair enough I’ll go with that…much easier than arguing.

Look,.. as a parent I have always been disapprovingly aware that kids can access this stuff. I am a big believer that kids should be kids for as long as possible, and should be protected…that is the responsibility of good parents.
But we all know kids today can run rings around us (well me anyway) with computer stuff,.and like I said the genie is out of the bottle so it depends on (good) parents even more, not some twonk in oarliament making rules for rules sake…
.I really do not think it will stop at least older streetwise kids getting to this stuff if they want to.

So is it a pr type excercise with no real substance, or is that hidden agenda lurking, and another freedom quashed…
As I have clarified, I just do not trust anything they do, I aint a constant conspiracy theorist either,.I just like to be prepared to be one step ahead of these type of authoriative type ****.s.

So in a nutshell and way I see it is…
All it is doing is the govt pi55ing people off as ever, and closing off yet another avenue of freedom, especially guys of all ages looking for relieving a bit of boredom by looking for a bit of '‘titilation’ (nature of the male)
So if all it is, is a govt pr excercise, it aint a well thought out one.
Not a cry or a whinge just my take on it.

Can’t argue with any of that.

But isn’t it a bit like smoking and drinking laws?
Having an 18 limit will probably stop 15yr olds getting a pint but maybe not 17yr olds. It ain’t perfect, but is better than the nothing we have at the moment.

Some are more sensitive than others.

That is way OTT IMHO. Asking for some proof of age is not blocking off a basic freedom.

Look lads, forget all this p orn/adult sites business, a nice pot of tea and a rich tea biscuit will fulfill all your needs.
The b astards are not getting my card details.
I’ll have a word with Mrs GOM to see if we can ‘improvise’, although seeing as we are both in our mid 80’s I’m not very optimistic.

Ok I’m getting the vibe off you rightly or wrongly of a slight disapproval of these sites, and that it aint ‘your thing’…fair do s up to you.
(Another conspiracy has just incidentally sprang to mind…is it pandering to certain religions that are highly favoured by this govt? .discuss.:joy:

But for those who do access them,.and have done freely for years, I do not think they will be happy about giving out e.mail.adresses let alone bank card numbers…the criteria is too risky.
So maybe not them blocking off another freedom in a direct way, more achieving an agenda by giving anybody with a brain little choice.
To put it more succinctly you would have to be desperate to see a pair of tits by giving away your i.d and bank a count number to a p0rn site of all things.

I couldn’t give a toss () one way or t’other so far as consenting adults are concerned.

Do any religions say anything good about ■■■■?

Maybe so. But if giving out details to an independent age verification site stops some younger kids from accessing ■■■■? A small inconvenience IMHO.

And we are getting bogged down in bank details. As too onerous if kids get some extra security.

Ok another agree to differ scenario or another long pointless argument?
Your call.

All this is down to the government’s plan to get everyone to have national identity cards or I think one day we will all have our photos on our credit and debit cards as an alternative identification method.

On the continent if you don’t have any ID on your person if stopped by the police when they request it, the penalty is a fine or a night on the custody cells.

When stopped abroad by the traffic police they were so sneaky and crafty to demand the vehicle registration paperwork,CMR and the permit, at the same time they ask to see my passport then walk off without handing it back, the passport can’t be temporarily seized as it belongs to the state or the king, I’m sure someone could confirm that or not?

They let you keep the vehicle keys.

Why did they do that?
It wasn’t for no reason at all was it?
It was because they wanted the vehicle stopped until a fine had been paid or whatever. And if docs were not taken the truck and driver would often just derive away. This is all pre www days with no instant access to check on things.
Would you be happy if Eu drivers came to the UK broke laws and scooted off with no consequences? Of course not. So, 'tis all equal that they get to deal with bent UK hauliers too.

You don’t have to be doing anything wrong to be stopped on a random control or driver and vehicle check, the first thing they do is climb in the cab to download the tachograph, if there is a permanent weigh bridge on site they will politely say go over there to be weighed, saying that most mobile traffic units will have portable weigh bridge mats to be used.

They can’t take the passport but have multiple times for myself, I think they take it in case an unscrupulous driver decides to abandon the vehicle to leave it there and go home, the vehicle paperwork remains with the authorities and won’t be released until another driver flies or drives out with the money or the boss collects the vehicle, the driver that leg’s it normally leaves the keys hidden on top the radiator or behind the wheel tied in with cable ties.

This is why I used to see abandoned lorries that have been cannibalised for parts with only the chassis left.

True.
But you were talking about docs being held. That does not happen randomly does it?
That happens for a reason. And you correctly identify the reason is to stop runaways. (Better than being banged up innit!)

All the documents are withheld until full payment of the court deposit, in deposits of large amounts the driver will not have the funds available or he can use a credit card then get it paid back by the boss later on, with large amounts the company will be in liaison directly with the police station to set up a Western Union wire transfer.

I was sat in a boring motorway service station near San Sebastián for 8 days until the boss got his act together to pay it, it was an issue with a wide load permit as the company was based in Gibraltar, the two countries do not get on politicaly, an ongoing feud lasting 100’s of years over territorial rights.

Wtf has all this got to do with getting yer jollies on x hamster?

For those not getting any ‘‘real’’ action it’s a major upheavel.

Thank Christ I have no complaints in that dept.:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

So make yerself useful Toby and put a link up for anybody wanting to sign it.

I’m all for ANY petition that shows this shower of sh govt not everybody is willing to put up with their lefty based b/s…whether it does any good or not.

At least it makes me feel better about myself showing an element of non servility towards these **** s. .
It’s a pity more people dud not take the time to show an element of resistance.

Like this one for instance.
