On a serious note I have tried h r but get told to keep checking the career page, which when there is a post going its 2 yrs experience , I have even checked out M d ’ s to companies and emailed them, properly cheeky but one will try anything.
So I have to resort to lies .
I’m not sure if there is such a thing as advance lorry training like I done when I passed my bike test, if there is does anyone know of a company?

Advanced LGV driver test is a little difficult to arrange but not impossible
You could be working for a company and they let you borrow the truck for a couple of saturday mornings for example or the company arrange for one of the AD organisations to come in and go out with the driver for a half day run followed by the test in a few weeks time
I have done both - a couple of times as the associate (trainee) and quite a few times as the observer (voluntary trainer)

Not sure that advanced LGV training will help much from a jobs point of view. They don’t want new drivers because A) they are inexperienced (and passing the advanced test will not change this) and B) the insurance is dearer for new drivers and again, an advance test pass won’t make much if any difference to this. Most places are probably unaware of advanced LGV training and care even less I would imagine. It can’t hurt though, just don’t expect to get a job straight away afterwards.
As an aside to this, my bike insurer said that I could have 5% discount as an advanced rider…which was around £7.50 off a year’s comp. policy… Waste of time from an insurance discount point of view. Although advance training is worth doing for many reasons, cheaper insurance isn’t one of them!
I understand what you mean about the insurance as i only got %10 off. But
I got to learn all how to ride as bike doing the advance course. As you know
All training is to get a rider through the test. Again it’s the same
For hGV , you share your days with another learner
Which is about 3-4 hrs each day driving for 4 days then 5th day is for the test. you get an unlaiden trailer, Manuel truck.
I don’t blame companies not wanting new drivers,

Yes I did which is why I just offered up how it generally works for those wanting to do the LGV advanced
I went out in my mates truck for 3 months , just to see daily life of a driver, which I found very interesting. Sadly he retired due to ill health. I am going to ask transport managers if I can be a passenger in the line of work I want, maybe that will get my size 3 in the door
Midget blade:
I 'll just get out there next wk and pester transport managers.
Monday morning, between 7 and 8, ready to leave there and then.
If you’ve just gotta nip home to pick up some gear, you’ll have missed the boat.
7 to 8 is when Joe Blots has just phoned in sick and the TM is phoning around trying to find someone to cover Joe’s shift.

Take all your stuff (inc. o/night gear) and be prepared to be out all week…you might drop on and go from nothing to a full time job in 5 days, if you’re lucky.
Just don’t agree to do it for free… Keep us posted on your progress and best of luck…
