New Boy Here - Vectrarep

Hi James.

Seems to me you’ve already made up your mind about this job, so why did you ask for advice in the first place?

All the advice you’ve recieved is absolutely spot on. From people who are actually doing the job and know what they are talking about.

How do you "Make up A little ground here and there if you don’t run illegaly? We are not all whiter than white. But we are all PROFFESSIONALS and proud of it. None of us would take a job knowing that we would have to break the law to complete it. We’ve all been were you are some of us are still there. I am an agency driver but would never take a full time job if I had to break the rules or "Make up a little ground here and there " as you put it.

As for some poor (ZB) having to bend the rules to make ends meet. There are plenty of operators/drivers making ends meet without bending the rules. It’s the bent ones who give our industry A bad name and make it harder for everyone else.

You might remember all the advice you’ve recieved the first time you’re coming down the M6 or the A14 and your eyes start getting heavy and you find it difficult to keep them open. Believe me it’s not a very nice feeling.

Cheers Ken.

I also think either:
a) This is a wind-up or
b) This is an attempt by a VOSA staff member to get a driver and/or operator to incriminate themselves. (A “fishing expedition”)
We all forget sometimes that an on-line boast is there for millions to see.
Conspiracy Theory?- Maybe …but nothing surprises me nowadays with the powers that certain, shall we say ,"overzealus"civil servants have been given.

hi vectra rep

Not much difference in job just a bigger and slower vehicle

i cant remember the last time i had a meeting :unamused:

(i can do Ipswitch to blackpool in my car in about 3.5 hours early mornings).

i’d have thought a sales rep could spell ipswich or at least check his spelling

what is the issue with the speed restrictor ? I understood that they were all setup at the hgv test station, so if it is wrong, i have no way of knowing ?

if it goes over 90k you defect it and refuse to drive it

i will be sad to see my Vectra go though

they only gave you a vectra!!!

After a little chat with him on the phone today, i said that “somebody” had told me i would need to run illegal. His reply was sort of Weeeelll not really illegal or “bent”, we just have to make up a little ground here & there

bent pure and simple

sorry to pick faults but its been a bad day

got to be a wind up

jon

I had not noticed the spelling, if he cant spell perhaps a friend of our’s has come back after he promised he’d had enough, RORO

i was thinking the same.
maybe a check on the ip address is needed.

edited because i cant spell either

So many points to address !!

  1. Spelling: maybe i can’t spell, does that make me a poor candidate as a driver ■■ Perhaps we should trawl through posts looking for any other misameanors !

  2. Only gave me a vectra - Yes i do only have a vectra, but surely more useful in my personal life than the iveco i might be driving soon ■■

  3. Can’t run a “little bit bent” – Well, I beg to differ. Compare it with speeding, 10 mph over would be a slapped writs, 50mph over would be a ban ! Surely this goes for running over time ?

  4. Many drivers earn more money: OK Guy, i beleive you, chill a bit !!! I don’t remember trying to belittle any driver, in fact i stated that i would be getting low pay. No doubt the £40k a year drivers are the top of the tree, whereas at my age £40k is the bottom of the rep tree. I’m not going to get into a yapping match over who could earn the most, irrelevant. Let me just say … money isn’t the issue any more than my capability to spell.

Why has this turned into an argument ■■? Because I don’t “conform” ■■

vectraman the simple reply to this is walkaway for this job very quickly because this guys is a cowboy there is noway on this planet that you will do liverpool to felix on 10 hours for your own and everyone elses saftey pls dont take this job  :unamused:

As you don’t know the regulations, by your own admission, how can you beg to differ? It isn’t down to degrees, you are either bent or you are not and if you are and get caught you can be dealt with heavily for what you might see as minor misdemeanours, or being a ‘little bit bent.’ It bears no comparison to the punishments for speeding.

No, it doesn’t. If you wish to join the professionals then you must be prepared to drive according to the rules. There are a few circumstances under which going over time is permissable, but “because the gaffer told me to” is not one of them.

It is up to you whether you choose to heed the advice given to you or not…but I would love to be a fly on the wall when you’re up before the Traffic Commisioner at a PI becuse your boss has been caught running his drivers bent, and this is the excuse you come up with.

It’s your licence. By holding that licence you are expected to know and abide by the law. If you choose to ignore the law, on your own head be it - but be warned…the fines are big, and the bans are long.

After reading every post again …

I am not becoming a lorry driver just yet. Seems like too much stress.

thanks all.

Am i still welcome to come here if i am not a driver ■■?

Have you forgotten that little recording device in the cab Vectra?I agree it’s picky to pick you up on spelling etc. but the other points are very valid. There will be a tachograph record of everything you do i.e. speed you drive at,how LONG you drive for etc.You will get away with everything until the ministry walk into your office or pull you in a roadside check,or you have an accident because you were driving when you were tired. At that point the game is up and you may find yourself looking at withdrawal of your LGV entitlement, possibly even disqualified, depending on the offences. You will have your day in court and will be fined for every offence you have commited and you may even find yourself as a guest of her majesty for a while! But worst of all,you might hurt or kill someone driving when tired. At that point I will say for the grace of God go I and leave you to ponder…

If you run legal and don’t let little things get to you there is very little stress.

Everyone is welcome on here, driver or not.

Yes it can be stressfull, perhaps more so for beginners but if it’s something you hanker after and you’re not happy where you are give it a go!Perhaps a big national company with lots of other drivers around to help keep you right might suit you to start. As for your being welcome here can’t see any problem myself, repping involves a lot of driving, stick around we’re not perfect here but there is a lot of experience here to call on

Dont see why not  we can be very nice :open_mouth:

As for the driving why not try it what have you got lose, anything you need to know ask.

And the spelling remark was not directed at you it was at roro, we all male spooling mistooks
