I wasn’t having a go at Preston’s, Odds… dont’ know a lot about them except what I see on the road and what I have read on here. Just used them as an example.
LOL Muckles … it means she owns this property and with all her assets, it adds up to a lot of money … more than you and I will ever see

The simple reason that im sticking up for prestons is that i work for them albeit thru an agency, and have been with them for nearly one year,i have the keys to my own truck no body else drives it all my kit is in there never gets touched.I have time of when i need it,never a moan when i take time off,i am never pushed to get it there!,if i feel that its to close to the bone they swop trailers,i get a little more that there drivers not much more but if i was to be paid for work done i would end up owing them…and another thing the pay rise has not been accepted and is not going to be
I also have worked for Prestons So I know what you mean, I was offered a full time job with them but politely refused! but when I was self employed I was working a lot of weekends for them running Cola and suger arround Various RDC’s at the time I was paid £16.80 for saturdays and £21 for sundays per hour! I always wondered if they could pay me that amount why didn’t they pay their own drivers a bit more!
I also can’t believe that they still wont pay for parking!
as for your own unit when I got to potto I was told to take my pick of any units in the Yard to take for the weekend needless to say I got the one that was closest to me! I remember going into the workshop and the guy there made me my own personal number plate up “THE CRITIC” which I left in a truck while working for another company
I agree about Prestons that they arn’t in a hurry and dont bother you which is sometimes worth a pound or so less a hour somtimes!
I for 1 ain’t knocking you for working for them, just them for paying such a pittance to Professional drivers!

no probs, but one or two are, just to say dont knock it till they try it,may be mop and bucket but at least its job that still there!!!
it’s about time coffeeholic and others got of there high horse and looked at the wider aspect of this thread yes there are some on this site who want to do some thing this is why there is this thread to find out.
if coffeeholic and others do not like what is being said then please if you do not want to be part of this debate then dont look at this thread.
some of you keep going on about striking but the door is open for ideas etc not to strike i for one would welcome other ways of bringing this to the attention of the media and others.
SO LETS STOP BACK BIGHTING AND SEE IF WE CAN COME UP WITH IDEAS OR SHUT THIS THREAD DOWN.
BECAUSE ALL IT SEEMS TO ME IS WE ARE GOING ROUND IN CIRCLES AND THE SAME FEW DRIVERS ARE TRYING TO WIND UP OTHERS.
and i for one am getting sick of some of the same comments comming out and from the same drivers.
Nothing is ever going to happen shut this (zb)down, most drivers know the score and nothing is going to change, everyones hearts in the right place but enough is enough.
language editif it needs stars to get past the word censor it’s not allowed mrs mix
40 hours, no more. No over weight. If a bulb is out on trailer, defect it. Stick to 40 mph on single carriageway and 50 on double, including A1 A38 etc. No nights out. Insist on proper H&S equipment, no lifting more than 22kgs,…what does a curtain pole weigh on a windy day?
It wouldnt take long to bring on some sense and all the while the employers have to pay you as you working to your contract.
Take your time

Just to add to this I was helping the police with their enquiries today, witness to a RTA, and the trafffic cop told me he was not happy with HGV’s travelling a t40mph on the A64, …too slow it ,causes car drivers to take risks to o/take. I explained that in some other parts of UK, A47 perhaps we would get booked at 50 mph. He accepted the rules were stupid. To get the law changed we need to keep to 40mph or less.

There are also people in parliament who agree, but nothing will be done because laws are made to keep the public and press happy not because of common sense.
You are right! can’t argue with that, I’m hourly paid but it sems daft and dangerous to me when car drivers are trying to get by and puting others at risk by not getting on withit etc… whwn at 50 mph most wouldn’t bother to o/take
