My trip to Czech Republic in September

OK, Vosa say private HGV is fine for continental travel. Insurance company also happy.

The info I posted about the emissions was taken directly (and as written) on the London Low Emission Zone certificate. Have checked V5 and no entries under ‘exhaust emmissions’ section. ‘T’ reg, date of first reg - 07/05/99, 11 litre ■■■■■■■■

Still waiting for a reply from the CZ organisers - probably still translating my Welsh Border ‘accent’!

You can drive from Calais to the Border at Belgium as long as you stay on the A16. So, just to be clear, Dunkerque and Eurotunnel routes wont be an option then? Just Calais has has the exemption?

What are fuel prices like on the continent now? Better to fill up ERF on this side or go over low?

Regards

Colin

you can drive from any crossing point…tunnel, Boulogne, Dunkerque or the port of Calais to the Belgium border as long as you head up to the A16 and not run along the N1 to the border

It is a bit cheeper in Europe than the UK, check the fuel prices HERE

Thanks for that - might not make any difference, but we did get a reduction on crossing from Norfolk line last year when we competed in Denmark so worth asking. Might be worth planning a 9 hour rest-up into the schedule near German / CZ border anyway and take advantage of a discounted crossing. I had been trying to get there in one hit but it might be better to take it easier - possibly rest up to avoid Monday daytime traffic - should be near D /CZ border by Monday morning. Anybody recommend a good place to rest-up over the Monday if that becomes the plan? Travel on through CZ overnight Mon/Tues arrive Tues early am- ready for breakfast. Sounds like we should find some secure parking for the rest-up and go and do some sight - seeing?

Thanks

Colin

Ok heres my wee bit … I aint as clever or experienced as those above as I ‘normally’ went South to the Sun  :sunglasses:

I would take the easier Dunkirk route and ‘bug’ Norfolkline for another sponsered/discounted crossing. Run up through Belgium, Holland & Germany. Plenty of decent Autohofs to plan a pleasant overnight stop and actually enjoy the trip rather than making a slog of it!

Head for Prague, it a decent road now but try to get around the city out of ‘rush hour’ times and you should be OK.

As for the rest, write down/have letters for everything you can think of and then even more.

DO NOT forget original docs for ALL vehicles, invoices to if you bought the tractors etc. ANYTHING to make your passage easier and remember, it’ll be the same/worse coming home with your hangover :open_mouth: :sunglasses:

Oh and best of luck, 22nd September is my Birthday so I’ll have a drink to wish you well  :sunglasses:

ps let us know how you get on to

Thanks Zebedee, good advice.

Thought I would try and load a couple of photos to show you what its about, - here goes but apologies if this is just blank

And this is what I will be doing when I get there. 2nd one is me competing in the European champioships in Denmark last October - 4th

THANKS nice photos all the best with the competition,

hello chaps,

well i made it out here . Got here last tuesday morning after an eventful trip - trailer tyre blow out bz frankfurt and a split airline to a air bag on the trailer.

Have a question - we were going to start back on Sundaz pm to get to the german border for 10pm and then onwards but are now told that we need to get to german border bz 1pm Sunday as driving ban on motorways after that. We are free to drive before that time so now contemplating leaving here Sunday at 5am ish. Bank Holiday here on Mondaz so need to get out before then!

Anz advice on the situation regarding driving restrictions over here much appreciated.

regards

ploughman

ps - competition going well - 1st place after 1st days competitions yesterday - all to do today

The Driving ban STARTS at 1300hrs --2200hrs in Czech so YEs you have to get
to the border before then bear in mind that you will not be the only ones that
will be heading for the border so parking may be difficult,it may be better to
stop just before the border, some where and rest up,

I love a good field buggy story  looks like a nice straight furrow on that RTA trarkter :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway. I want to ask some advice from the TN knowledge base now. I have been tasked with getting about 14 1000cc sidecar outfits to Poland next year.

The criteria is;

  1. we want them back :stuck_out_tongue:
  2. they are fragile :open_mouth:
  3. They are about 8’ long x 5’ 6" wide :unamused:
  4. they don’t want them carried at any wierd angle or propped on their end :bulb:
  5. I have to also fit in 28 riders kit, 14 toolboxes and make room for spare fairings, wheels and tyres.

Brit Pete, thanks for that. Now back at home. We got away at 3.30am and got to the border for 12 - I didnt get your reply til now but as you say, it was busy! Good restaurant on South side of border facilities - recommended!

Fired into Germany at 10 past 10pm (expecting a mass evacuation but all very orderly) and double manned it back to Blighty - completely uneventful!

Didnt perform to my best on Saturday, but was happy to get 3rd overall - Rep of Ireland 1st and France 2nd.

I am hoping to qualify to represent England at the World contest in New Zealand in April 2010 - any ideas on which route to take?

thanks again for all your advice which made the trip much more enjoyable for knowing a little bit about what to expect and for the tips which made life a little easier

regards

Colin

Colin , we are ALL glad that you done well and that we could help
cheapest way to get to newZeland stick it all on a boat no seriously
you may have some problems as they (NEW ZELAND) will expect you to have a
super clean set in fact probably of Hospital standard thats if you take can
take your set up with you, this is to keep the country freeof other country’s
problems,

Congratulations to Colin!

Wheelnut: a car transporter may do the job. alternatively, there are special trailers (boxes or c-siders) with ramp at the back and hydraulic second deck, used to move vintage/flashy/expensive/prototype cars to shows/test etc.

Yes mate. I used to drive one for Ontime. This trip is being done on a tight budget and will probably need a lot of charity

We are in talks with the ferry companies for a freebie. Speedway is very big in Poland, and some of our best riders are Polish but shale-track sidecars are new to them.

We have the chance of borrowing an old FH16 and one curtainsider, just that Paul the owner doesn’t know it yet. :stuck_out_tongue:

I know its nothing to do with a truck forum but I thought I would just let you all know that I DID win the british Nationals and I am currently working out how to get the kit to NZ as cheaply as possible.

I was even more delighted that my eldest son (18) was in 3rd place and will be ploughing for England in the European Ploughing finals in Republic of Ireland next September      . VERY proud of him

Thanks again guys

Colin

Congratulations to you and your son, all the best for the future rounds and as for NZ
have you tried asking firms to sponsor you , say like Virgin, Quantas, John Deere
or any of the other makes of farm equipment, just a thought,
