Sound advice from others who have experienced the same/similar work.
I would add:
TAKE YOUR TIME (there are no prizes for being first back to the yard)
Before leaving a drop, take a couple of minutes to complete every piece of required paperwork etc and stack all the completed PODs etc neatly (i.e. don’t just lob them in a heap to sort out later). Also get all paperwork for the NEXT drop out and have a look through it to check for important/useful information before you start driving.
TAKE YOUR TIME
Don’t be a hero - ASK the shop staff how/where the regular drivers do the delivery - but DON’T be railroaded into doing something you regard as dodgy/illegal just “because that’s the way others do it” (I’m thinking specifically about Clearways, loading restrictions and zig-zag markings here - unloading on the latter can get you 3 points on your collector card - a.k.a. driving licence)
TAKE YOUR TIME
Oh - and one final thought - relax and TAKE YOUR TIME.
Thanks, will do! And thanks for the advice, cant wait to get started onwards and upwards!
If your also late for a Tesco or a Sainsbury’s let the office know. Wisemens get fined loads for being late.
Not half as much as short delivering a Sainsbury’s & getting caught by one of their auditors! It was £80 a bottle last I heard, so one pack of 1 pinters missing = £2800.
Not sure if Northampton do Sainsbury’s (?), but I remember sitting for two hours once waiting for someone to bring me 20 bottles of missing milk before I could attempt delivery.
Yes they do Sainsbury’s and I heard the same. it will take 2 arctic loads to replace the milk that was fined for
well i start with induction next monday in droitwich then its some paid for cpc i believe before going out with one of the guys on the actual route later in the week. I have done a google street view on some random co-ops in the area and notice some are like the ones where i live as in no loading bay just park outside if theres space! Might be a good idea to get some store numbers and phone ahead on them do you think with some cones that say truck parking only!
Can i ask of the other posters if they now work for said firm or have worked for ?
Cones? your having a laugh. By the time you get there fella it will be early doors. Don’t worry as all the stores are different to others

Fair enough! Just an idea, is it worth phoning ahead?
I work for co op, delivered to pretty much every store between Lake District and Birmingham from two depots, you’ll probs only have between 1 and 4 cages of milk for any one store in Leicester, I would say occasionally more for some of the bigger stores, so I would just park where it is reasonably safe and ask the staff or your people at the depot how to get in and out of the stores where best to turn round in car parks etc, don’t know if you’ll get the risk assessments all us co op guys get, the cages are quite small but heavy when fully loaded so you have to be careful about bumps on the pavements and around stores etc. think they have mostly 18t ridgids at wisemans rather than 26t so you should be ok as a newbie.
If you want to pm some of the locations of the stores your going to pm me and I’ll try and advise you.

Yea, most stores with parking issues are done early but if you do get to a store later & theres no spaces, you just have to abandon the wagon where you can and wheel the trolleys up / across the road, or if impractical wait for a space.
Don’t think a shop has any right to cone off a space on the public highway, they wouldn’t bother anyway for anything other than their own DC delivery.

It’s all 26T nowadays. Story has it the 18 tonners were replaced after VOSA became interested in them overloading.

Cheers, am gonna get a couple of days on my 1st week to have a look at them by going out with one of the guys so should be able to figure which are the more difficult ones etc… theres a few by me one which is park outside jobbie see there own trucks and kingsmill trucks struggling to get into space depnding on how busy it is! here’s one which looks interesting in leceister Google Maps
Ah, a shop on pedestrian crossing zig zags
Pray you get that one early doors, looks like you reverse off the main road into the side street & park on the single yellows. Those single yellows with doubtless be full of parked cars most of the time as people ‘nip in’ the shop. The regular driver will have it sussed though.
Good luck for today, it’s gonna be a lot to take in at once, notebook and pen crucial. Hope it goes well for you.
I always imagine the class 2 shop deliveries to be good but hard work but at least u get to do a bit of moving about! Anyway keep checking to see how your first week went so come on do tell us!
