msa fines ......

How do they get the registered keeper details, as you said they are not a statutory body so what gives them the right to have my details? Is it not restricted data, this is information that is not in the public domain!

they buy the info from the dvla.

virtually anyone with a “need to know” can buy details from the dvla.
Although supposedly confidential it isn’t.

Let’s get this quite clear…

It is NOT A FINE.

It is probably issued by CP and described as a charge or some such thing.

DO NOT pay it. Ignore the letter and the next two. There will be no more after three. Reply to just one and they will hound you.

There are no reported cases of these charges ever going to court for a simple reason: It is not the owner who is responsible for parking, it is the DRIVER. These people have no legal power to demand the driver’s details from the owner so cannot issue a summons against the driver (not that they would for £60).

Many people are fooled into paying these things because they believe them to be ‘official’.

If you don’t believe me I will make you an offer:
Send me £30 and ignore their letters. If they issue a summons I will pay your £60 fine, if they don’t we are both £30 up.

How does that sound.

I think this is a retrospective point now Alan as I would guess that the OPs friend has paid the £60 charge being of a Godly nature

I do however think it is a bit screwed that DVLA will sell my personal info to anyone who purports to have some official standing even if it’s just a parking enforcement officer.

I think I could buy your details as a senior member of a motorcycle club if I used a club letterhead

all is explained on pepipoo .co.uk

Really hope you weren’t daft enough to pay…

Nothing more than a speculative invoice. They’ve never won in court!

You probably could. But don’t you think it’s morally wrong for DVLA to divulge this info to non government bodies?

Since they have all gone to ANPR I never pay - though I am on foreign plates. Nor do I get any bother with speed cameras of either the fixed or average variety. Yeeeeeehaaaaa ramming speed Mr Sulu!

Think that you have to be a member of an accredited organisation.
The msa parking unit will be members of some such organisation.
as I understand the rules you still have to have a reasonable need to get the info and as far as I know they don’t release driving licence details the same way, except of course to police etc.

there is a much more simple reason why CP plus (or whoever) don’t take you to court - they tried, and got told they’re not allowed to, as they don’t own the land you’re parked on. the owner of the site (welcome break or whoever) could, but their car park management company couldn’t

that said, when i overnight in a msa, i (my gaffer) always pay for parking so i can get the food voucher

i know about the whole invoice thing, and as stated, chuck them in the bin.
bit off topic here, but say i pull into said m.s.a for a 45 min break whilst on my night run.
i do containers, often chilled so it has a genset running, (often noisy) i’d prefer to park inthe normally empty coach bays so as not to wake any sleeping drivers up. do the clamping numpties still have powers in the coach bays, anyone know for sure?

As far as I know it is 2 hours free parking for all vehicles. Have a look at the charges board next time you visit

James Bond had the right idea… Most of you will know what I mean. (Aston Martin)

Mate, I get your drift - machine guns behind the overriders. Blast them ANPR cameras to bits - wooooohoooo!!!

Oh - I think you’re referring to the revolving number plates

They do @ ferrybridge moto apparently, heard a driver warning us not to take a 45 on the coach bays because he was fined…

true, i was just thinking that if it was a coach bay, if you left the truck un attended, the clampers would pounce straight away.

ta pimpdaddy, thought thats how it would be.

Ignore the fine/invoice by all means.
However, if you use the MSA again in the same vehcile, be preperd to be clamped…

So you reckon someones waiting for your particular vehicle to come back and then pounce? NAH! :unamused:

Not 100% but as it is the driver that enters into the “agreement” then they cannot do that ■■
