i would buy a big american one and do it all over again if i won the lotto…
I have a friend who used to import motorhomes from the US but he packed it up six or seven years ago because the legislation changed and most of them now cannot be given a UK registration as they are overwidth, have too large a turning circle etc.
Got an 18t Iveco rigid converted as a motorhome!

Self build is definately the way to go as you can be as imaginative as you want, I’m half way through doing the kitchen using a 100yr old English oak dresser and will have a full size gas cooker and Belfast sink which should be done in the next few weeks. It’s my full time home, in the winter I stay on a farm and in the summer I work the festivals doing rigging and truck driving, then I take it abroad for 1 or 2 months for a well earned break…
Where do you keep your banjo?
Looks good, but if you don’t mind me saying so, the wood burner looks to be a bit too close to the oak dresser.
The angle of the picture makes it look closer than it really is, plus it’s lined with fire board.

Got any photos Dave?
Here you go mate:
Behind the tail lift is a 3 metre long garage section.

Both of the above conversions are fantastic.

I thought you were meant to rest when on holiday , having to drive round / cook / not being able to drink half the time / wash up etc doesn’t sound like much of a holiday to me , and never mind buying the thing .
Get a hotel , fully inclusive , sunbed / ■■■■■■ up/ sun bed / ■■■■■■ up , that’s a holiday ( Mrs may not approve though )
I guess we’re all different. I’m off on my narrowboat next week with my boy and we will have to drive, cook, wash up, fill the water tank, fill the diesel tank, empty the chemical toilet, as well as many of the other things that also go with motorhoming- fortunately we can get ■■■■■■ up as I’ve never heard of a boater being breathalysed!
There’s been a few nasty incidents in locks, where alcohol was believed to have played a part.

True, but these incidents invariably involve inexperienced stag parties on hire boats who come to grief when the boat gets “cilled” because they don’t understand how a lock works. One of the beauties of canal boating is that you can crack open a tinnie at lunchtime without worrying about having a serious accident or getting pulled by the Filth.

I could go and lay on a sunbed for a week instead, and I have done that in the past, but it just wouldn’t appeal to me nowadays. If this is the OP’s thing, then good luck to him

That article dates from 2009 and there has been no increase in enforcement since then, there isn’t a specified blood/alcohol limit for driving a narrowboat and as you don’t need a licence to drive one, you can’t be “banned”. Pop along next week for the day if you want, I’ll show you.
I’d love to in fact, what’s yer’ poison?
I’m amenable to pretty much anything!
Here’s where I will be next week, I am setting off with one of my boys tomorrow morning (the other one is working), this is called the Warwickshire Ring. We will be travelling clockwise.

Seriously, anyone who wants to come along for the day is welcome, I have had one TruckNet member along for the afternoon last Summer, and I think it’s fair to say he had a great time. All anyone would have to do is to liaise with me the day before about where I am going to be, find me and then find their own way back to their car at the end of the day by public transport, or taxi etc. We don’t travel very far, 15 miles is a good day. And we do like company.
But I don’t want to hijack this thread, so I’ll leave it there. I really do like both of the above van conversions, both very different but both beautiful.

I’ll not hi-jack it either. I used to live in Crick, and was a regular visitor to the boat show when it was on. I’m in Brum from Tuesday, you never know mate!!!
