I agree that is true to a certain extent and I would always go for job satisfaction over money but there has to be a limit and £69 a day for the hours that will be involved in doing Spain and Portugal is below that limit in my opinion. While it may suit some drivers financial needs, happiness and so on while people are willing to work for that money it will not get better. There is no way you should be doing more than 8 hours for £69 per day but I bet 8 hour days are almost non existent on that job.

With a 11 hour daily rest,all the firms i have worked for would expect me to drive a full 9 or 10 hours,to get South of Bordeaux,first night,second night to get to the Salamanca area,after coming off the ferry at Ouistreham.

i know men who have went to places in lorry that i couldnt spell, but there on agency in londonshire earning £18 p.h on a saturday night, its money they want not a lifestyle, and i know men tramping europe 6 weeks out for £400 in the bank, its a lifestyle they want and not money…

Because, for instance, if you do say 10 hours for £69 then you are working for £6.90 an hour and I would say basic self respect should make you think twice about selling yourself that short. Do a 10 hour driving day, which running Spain and Portugal you are going to be doing, and with breaks and a bit of other work for daily checks, fuelling and so on means at least a 12 hour day then you will be working for less than the legal minimum wage. Any employer paying a Cat C+E driver just £69 per day and expecting more than about 8 hours work from them is exploiting that driver and in this day and age no one should allow themselves to be exploited like that.

That’s fine, each to there own but there has to be a limit and if people are happy with £400 a week in the bank then good luck to them, I wouldn’t knock that, but £69 a day means you are only just getting over £400 top line if you do 6 days in the week. That’s taking the ■■■■.

“sounds like matthews is a great job”, yet another sneering comment, a job is a job, take it or leave it, its about personal choice, why oh why do self important egotistical back slapping premadonna drivers feel the need to run down a job because it doesnt suit them, how many times have we been in places where you hear drivers running down there colleauges, such as, “give it to him, he will do it”, “that bloody idiot running around carving the job up”, “look at that clown with the lights and curtains”, come on chaps, we have all heard it, it borders on bullying, just the same as running down a job with sneering comments and borderline tasteless comments… if these blokes were on the dole with six kids living of the state then perhaps such sneering would be justifiable but there not, they are doing it as they see fit and well done to mr eat more chips for stating his wage structure on here, im sure many men would jump at the chance of such an interesting and varied position…

How many so called blue chip company drivers who are job and knock run bent but thats ok because their wage structure being on a salary allows them to do it and so does their management.Then the poor agency driver (me) gets a bollocking for taking my proper legal break and being at least an hour more than the normal guy!! I have done all over europe and central asia but that time for me was as stated above more a way of life for me as i enjoyed being away and 400-500 a week was normal for most guys i knew doing the same sort of work and the ones who always said they got more were mostly full of crap as when i phoned their companies and enquired about jobs then i was always told the truth by the management. I am now well paid on the agency but i can understand anybody wishing to do the european and doing it for a wage as stated above. There is plenty guys on here who are quick to put other drivers down but what is the alternative? We cant all drive top class motors for £700 a week now can we!!

I didnt take it kindly and told him what i thought of his company and what i thought of the management for allowing their own drivers to unload and reload while on break. Anyway as far as the money goes i would rather work for the money stated than be in a factory or any other job as i actually enjoy driving no matter where it is to. I have known many guys who talked well in a cafe about wanting to try going over the water but have not had the courage to do so and that includes a few of my best mates. As far as a call to vosa what is the point? They are only interested in chasing smaller companies in my opinion and you cant name and shame on here as its always classed as hearsay by the mods!!

I have to say I totally agree with LRM on this. Why can’t people just have a live and let live attitude? I get so sick of drivers moaning and sniping about each other I tend to keep myself to myself these days.
