Even with things being as tight as they are regarding NI firms needing good HGV1 drivers most of them will want you to have your licence 2yrs and have been doing some sort of truck driving over that time. :frowning:

Their insurance company will DEMAND it.

That’s what put me off doing it when I was younger the only reason I would do it now is if I can’t get a job doing something else

Don’t let that put you off irish lorries, plenty of places will give young lads a start if you are keen and willing to work hard. But I would try places that have smaller ridgids to start out with.

True, there are lads of 19/20/21 out piloting for men. If you are lucky enough someone will give you a chance, just depends how much the insurance would cost him.

What was involved at interview

If you consider yourself an experienced driver your interview will consist of going on a wee jaunt of about 25mins in a truck with Paddy and having a bit of a “chin wag” :exclamation: :exclamation:

There are trying their best to get rid of the “Eeejitts” who “can’t drive ducks up a sheugh”
(Pronounced “shuck” for those not born in NI  ) and who can only get 6mpg out of a VolvoFH480/i-shift and wreck the yoke at the same time :exclamation: :exclamation:
They are wild busy and are badly needing more “good” drivers and they run all good tackle.

My advice:
DRIVE the truck like you own it yourself (IE sensible) and have a decent previous driving record and you’ll be asked at the end of the wee jaunt,
“When you want to do your 1sr run” :sunglasses:

Have you worked for them

Have not quite made my mind up what I’m for doing.

I am having a “difficulty” @ McCulla and being “arsed” about so decided for two days last week to have a look as to what’s really on offer from other NI trucking companies.
After two SHORT driving assessments, two phonecalls to another two companies and filling in a Driverhire agency application I’ve now got the offer of SIX full time trucking jobs ALL bloody wanting me to start this week :exclamation: :exclamation:

If your in NI and have a clean licence with decent trucking experience and now the ALL important full Drivers CPC card believe me,
you are in a very HANDY position for getting a better wage rate :exclamation: :exclamation: :sunglasses:

Looks like the driver shortage has came to northern ireland so whats McCulla like to work for I know the pays not the best but they may take on a new driver would try them if I ever need to get my license

They are taking on MorganMclernon “rejects” ATM,
what does that tell you   :exclamation: :exclamation:

Sure mc culla would take your dead granny on for wages he pays ■■■■■ wages and ■■■■ work.
He has one or 2 ■■■■■■■ of drivers touting to cops on A75 on the fones for us irish doing over 40mph speed.

I see Morgan McLernon adverising too on the jobcentre website. Was offered a job with them a few years back, heard a few stories from some of the boys who’d left them but I had a load of ■■■■■ happening at home so stayed where I was. All the drivers in the yard there were East European but I don’t know what it’s like there now… Decent enough kit and I was told I wouldn’t be out for weeks on end.

Done work for McCulla, £550 - £500 take home, 2 weeks out. Is that true about the tout/s, the fe*kers !!!

I might give them a ring if the bucks are better plus their yard is far handier to get to than where I’m working now and it’s the same work. How long you out for now irishrover ■■?

Its up to your self mate you tell them if you want to go full time or 2 runs a week or a weekend run and they will work with you.
there payin best cash at minate on wages.

Sure I’ll give them a call tomorrow, I won’t be back home in Ireland for another two weeks but it’s worth a call

McCulla paying £550home every week now but still 2weeks out.
Their drivers aren’t “chasing the boats” and the groupage chilled work that they do means they don’t have to fly about the country.
They do sometimes get a couple of 24hr weekly rests in same week but still get £550home, 2weeks a looooooong stint out in this hot weather though :exclamation: :exclamation:

theeemed to park up a lot at peters pies caerphilly

Don’t forget max hours!! Take night out money away from that and I don’t even want to know what that works out per hour.

The night out money is a tax fiddle (£33night UK £36night Euro) and work that out and the actual wage is DIRE.
Wild pile of drivers have walked away since January, 2weeks out in this heat would vex any driver :exclamation: :exclamation:

Yes Steve Morgans are in cml at Telford I’m in my second week tramping for them and all seems well at the moment

Would I be right in saying if you talk to “Slap” himself you could “haggle” £275home per trip for the ones that have you right at THE MAX on your 15hr spread   :exclamation: :exclamation:
