looks like a them and us double standard again if thats the case.
if plod can legally use a mobile phone switched to handset use, then why is it illegal to use a mobile phone whilst driving if its on satnav ,camera, music,or uploading your faceache status mode.
if you can legally use a walkietalkie thing as a mobile hone, then why cant you use a mobile phone as anything else so long as your not calling someone.
surely the same type of non phone usage though basically a mobile phone with multiple features?
all we need is for one of those slimeball lawyers for the rich pondlife footballer/celebrities to try that one as an excuse.
i wish i could patent the idea.
Police officers don’t use mobile phones, they use a tetra (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) handset.
Police officers operate their radios handsfree while driving, whether that’s as a radio or phone and is completely legal.
The legislation refers to holding the phone.
If you don’t like the legislation, speak to your MP. It wasn’t the police that devised the mobile phone law, it was the government. The police only enforce the rules.
Genuine question - with no side agenda.
If I have my mobile in a cradle that operates like a satnav mount - can I call/text with it when I’m stuck in traffic? As long as I’m not holding it.
Cheers

jesus, not even dozy would be asking that one though it once again typifies why the newer breed of drivers are best suited to agency/stobart employment.
no wonder theres some on here that assume posts like that have to just be poor attempts at utter trolling pish.

You must stay in full control of your vehicle at all times. The police can stop you if they think you’re not in control because you’re distracted and you could be prosecuted.
Which in reality is complete crap…he is stuck in traffic stationary ffs.
More like…‘‘The Police can stop you if they think they can get a chance to nick you’’
aka ‘‘Easy pickings’’
You are no more ‘‘Not in control’’ doing that, than if you were adjusting radio, using CB, flicking through the dash computer info, or scratching your arse.

+1 and amen to that…
now,not that i know, but how does a plod driving along make a phone call using the handset as a mobile…is it speech recognition in which case theres not a woodentop from scotland, newcastle or welsh wales thatl be abe to make a word that the computer can understand,or is it a question of dialing or scrolling up a number using their hand at the same time as they are driving?

Yeah - because clarifying something definitely makes you a troll.
Greatest respect and all - but the last time you acted up on threads calling people trolls - you disappeared when other people came on saying I was right. At that time you couldn’t believe what a top quality agency driver like myself was able to earn. So rather than trying to feel superior to agency drivers perhaps you should aspire to reach their high standards and then you yourself could earn a wage you literally didn’t think was possibly realistic.
Anyway - have a nice day mate. If you fancy aiming for the stars send me a PM and I’ll be happy to point you in the right direction.

if you genuinely are completely ignorant about the legalities of mobile phone use when driving and you profess to be making a living as a hgv driver then you are certainly well qualified with a career in agency/stobart type work.
your 3 amigos chiming in proves nothing im afraid other then to raise others suspicions anyway, but dream on in your own wee world.
ive never needed to aim for stars, its more satisfying and rewarding where i am.
i have no need to feel superior to agency drivers, but rather my own sense of decency leads me to refrain from demeaning myself to stoop enough to have to lower my standards to be desperate enough to consider working for one though i tried it several years ago to convince myself my intuition was correct in every way.
weve had the lot on here ranging from refridgeration professors, the world of qualifications in the land of conor and now it appears your somewhat familiar with rf testing? …happy days then,it all makes for a good read…

I’m at my other job today and I’m a bit bored so I’ll play along.
P.S - just because someone else is capable of doing more than just driving a truck doesn’t mean they are not real. Some of us do is because we enjoy it rather than because we have no other option.
well ive plenty of options as well as driving hence im lying on my hole playing on this.
fridge guru that only plays at driving fr the enjoyment
rf transmissions guru with a similar outlook to life.
weve got the lot in here nowadays,
but id be spending my time reading up on mobile phone use whilst driving if i was you…

8yrs ago a guy in Ayr was done for blowing his nose. Clicky
Funnily enough the Fiscal dropped the case, before it went to court.

Thinking…an optician or Dr spends years training and tests your eyes using sophisticated equipment and controlled environment yet a Police Officer can pull out a tape on the side of the road in any conditions and tell you you have poor eyesight…

If you can’t read a number plate from 20 metres (65 feet) in daylight then you clearly have an eyesight problem. It doesn’t take an optician to work that out.
Drivers should be aware of their own medical health and must report to the DVLA any health, including vision, problems which could affect safe driving. This is made quite clear in the Highway Code, and the onus is on the driver to self-report at once, not merely at licence renewal.
