Monday! Prepare for chaos

I hate the long winter nights as it makes my missus as miserable as sin ( but not much happier in June either imo)…

Sounds like she needs a good seeing to. Might cheer her up a bit.

…she’s Scottish

Oh, never mind.

Heard a story once (not sure if it’s true or not) about confusing headlights.

A couple of Bikers decided to have a race one dark night, up to a roundabout & back. On their way back, one of their mates thought that it would be a good idea to ride towards them straight between the 2 headlights !
Trouble was- he misjudged the timing, it wasn’t his mates, it was a Lorry [emoji15]

I for one am happier to have the (slightly) lighter mornings, albeit for only a short while. Had an unfamiliar truck in the week, driving in a pitch dark quarry I hadn’t been to for a long while, which wasn’t fun.

Problem tomorrow evening, is people will either be dawdling or not adapting to perceived speeds of approaching cars in the darkness. In either situation, there will no doubt be a plethora of brake lights coming on. :open_mouth:

The greater joy will follow shortly with the Christmas shoppers. You know the housewives and pensioners that think everyone is on a leisure drive.

My nightly shift begins with a short trip down the M66 each night, approximately 15 miles in length. As a sample, last night I thought I’d just count how many vehicles I passed on this short stretch with faulty headlights. Bear in mind it’s only a 2-lane motorway and is hardly the M25 at rush hour. I counted 16 vehicles with 1 main beam inoperative, and 2 vehicles went past with no headlights on (but had their side lights on), so they could have been either inoperative too or maybe the drivers hadn’t realised only their side lights were on.

You can more or less guarantee that unless the vehicle has an intervening MOT then the lights will still be the same when we change the clocks back again in March.

i’ve been commuting in the dark for a couple of months now and I see the same cars everyday with headlights out, do they not know or care?!

The best one is a clapped out golf. left headlight unit completely dead, left fog light on, right headlight not aligned properly (blinds me every morning on the A5) and right foglight dead.

are these cars exempt from MOT’s or something? if they cant even be arsed to replace bulbs I dread to think how the rest of the POS is maintained.

They’re not maintained at all, according to my neighbour’s son who owns a local garage and MOT centre. What ■■■■■■ me off is that VOSA or whatever they’re called these days target us cos we’re easy pickings, but ignore cars which are just as likely to cause an accident. If an operator bungs a slightly sub-standard lorry in for test he’s likely to get a visit, do that with a car and there’s no comeback. Have a missing number plate on a trailer and you get fined; yet cars with bicycles strapped to the rear and both lights and plate invisible get ignored. Same goes for duff lights, and I bet if they started pulling cars in and checking tyres ATS would make a mint!

Maintaining vehicle standards should be across the board from mopeds up to artics.
