Limey:
That’s the first decent motor on this thread!
Where have you been till now?? We got to page 6 before you squeaked!
Just here on the off chance there may be a B Series or two in the background
In order to enhance the “modicum of character” of the Mk.2, as I think you put it some time ago??
Anyway, wasn’t the B Series designed by an ex-Atkinson man??
I re-call that along with one or two other “dyed in the wool” Atki men we used to refer to the ERF as the “Erfkinson” I know,I know, very insulting!! Cheers Dennis.
Morning all, Dennis, super photograph, clearly shows how Atkinson had plainly the best mirror set up of any of their rivals. Great vision, and the mirrors did not obscure threequarter vision. Remember how awfull were the Ergomatic and ERF setups!! Oh well off on the tractor now (to hold up some of our executive villagers)! Cheerio for now.

Not strictly true.
The B Series was at the end of the day an update of the A Series design chassis, with an all new SP tilt cab fitted.
It is difficult to assertain accurately exactly what input the man in question had to the finished B Series design.

It was actually Ford that first addressed a rearward visability issue on their D Series cabs with the option of large Western American style of Wingard mirrors - a first in 1965. ERF were next to fit the same style of Western mirror as standard on the 7LV and 8LV cabs followed by PMG / Britax mirrors on Atki and Foden.
A similar school of thought to that of W&J Riding, who also ‘tinkered’ with the factory product until they had it how they wanted it… Ridings moved their indicators to the front corners - just above the sidelights.

Actually, I was thinking about the cab and, more especially, winding up my pal The Limester
Incidentally, though, Frank Whalley did once tell me that the Mk.3 Atkinson would have looked more like the B Series than the 400. Even better, he reckoned that the design for the B Series started out with the Viewline!

We are straying into un-charted territory now Chris!! getting into the realms of Mk3 Atki’s—you sure you are not withholding a full set of factory drawings of “The beast” that never was but surely should have been? Dennis.

Don’t get exited Bewick lad, old Gardners just deluding himself. However the SP cab did soldier on for thirty years or more so wearing the big A might not have been entirely inappropriate for it.

See, I just knew you couldn’t resist
And, of course, drawn into an Atki thread like a moth to a flame
