The V8 Perkins was OK compared to the V8 ■■■■■■■■ Both were kak compared to in line 6’s though and the Deutz V6 was better (by a hair’s whisker) than any V8 at that time imo…(as fitted to Cargos)

As much as i disliked Cargos, the 10.6l ‘640’ Perkins V8 at 200hp (2820) was an improvement over the smaller 8.8l version and as you say the aircooled Deutz V6 was very slightly better.
When stepping up on the step to look inside a 2820 which was the latest pos on the fleet the driver (knobhead) exclaimed to me, ‘this ones mine. no good you getting images of grandeur’…i laughed so much my sides nearly split :grimacing:
