Microlise "Speeding" infringements

nick2008:
I think the other offence is freewheeling driving a vehicle whilst not in full control by use of the power transmission or something along those lines.

Well if that were true you’d be [zb]ed if your truck has eco roll then

Exactly mate…And i now drive a new Daf for my sins…And it encourages you to use the exhaust brake as much as possible to save the brake linings…Even gives you a score on the dash.Although you have upped your score by not using it…Wich is obviousely good for your pocket…It’s not so good for the truck. So i can’t see how they are saving money by having it set up that way…

I know mate. I’ve just been watching a few youtube videos of drivers flooring their new Peterbilts through 18 speed Fuller gearboxes. There was neither an overspeed nor a noise restriction in sight. One comment on one video asked the bloke what speed it was governed to, and he replied “98mph unfortunately”.

I throw my hands up in the air at the shenanigans we face in Blighty.

Microlise and other telematics can have the parameters set by the company e.g. Over speed at 50mph to 56 mph depends what the company wants.
Supermarket job like mine over speed set at 30 seconds over 52mph [emoji847]

I know mate. During my first few weeks I couldn’t achieve the A grades on my fuel saving. Ever since I stopped using the exhaust brake I’ve managed to up my score. There’s some laminated poster in the canteen about green band driving, and it says using the exhaust brake goes against us. Bloody shame really, as I was always using it to save brake pad wear. The strange thing is, by my understanding, exhaust brakes cut the fuel supply, so though it’s revving higher, it’s not using fuel. Even had this confirmed by the driver trainer. Ah well.

Apart from the fact we could get A grades using the exhaust brake thats what happened to us at first with the penalising until we pointed out exactly what you said and also pointed out it was in the training video from DAF we’d all had to sit through. Cue change of parameters and no penalising for going outside of green band any more.

I got called in twice, really annoyed me and I disputed the accuracy as after the first occasion I made a real effort. On the second occasion there wasn’t a single over 30 flagged up, yet loads of over 40’s & over 50’s. I just said if there’s no over 30’s then that tells you I do stick to limits and the others are errors. Possibly a lag in the technology or incorrect mapping. Anyway to be sure I just unplugged it in the unit and heard nothing since.

A few days on a go slow may also have been a factor in them backing off… planner expected me back but I just said I kept getting moaned at for going over 50 when I’m not in a 50 so went down to Dorset with the limiter set at 81kph. You could see the fear in the Tesco boys eyes as they gripped the wheel to perform an overtake on the A34.

Tesco in the outside lane?! :open_mouth: Did they require oxygen?

and its ironic there you are locked in 10th with the exhaust brake working overtime keeping it to 90ks

For us it’s 84kph (85 and it’s an overspeed), and we can’t even use the exhaust brake otherwise the telematics register it as being outside of “green band driving”, and we lose our fuel bonus for that shift. So when we’re fully loaded and going down long hills, it’s footbrake on for about 50% of the way, and a speedo-obsessed eye. Keeping it at 84 and under is actually tiring and frustrating. And to think that as little as 3 or 4 years ago I never gave any of this crap a second thought, and I considered overspeeds an irritating distraction when the tacho display flashed.

I’ve given up trying to hold it. I let the exhaust brake kick in and hold it to 60. Most of got about 10 -15 last night, 44ton in a Daf really likes hills.
