Congratualitions!
That Merc looks like it’s in good original condition.
The paintwork on the cab looks really good, please show more pictures after you’ve finished the renovation.
Regards!
Jörg

Hi all.
Well, I found this forum, (and in particular) this thread by accident, but I’m glad I did!!! That Eurocab is stunning!! Well done on the resto. Its also taught me some of the definitions of model numbers. I knew that the first two were ‘tonnage’ and the second two ‘horsepower’, but am still working out the differences between ‘Powerliners’, ‘Euroliners’, ‘AK’s’, ‘SK’s’, and any others I don’t know about. I drove for a company called Dragoman, based out of Suffolk, who ran the series of trucks being talked about in this thread, from 1617’s in 4x2 form to 2421’s in 6x4 form. I think there were a few V8 4x2’s in South America, but I never got that far. They had ‘Overland Coach Bodies’ built on them, and we drove all over Africa. Because of this, I’ve never been able to shake the travel bug, or the desire to own a 4x4 Merc (thats NOT a Mog!). So, long story short, my wife and I are now looking to buy here in Adelaide Australia a Merc 1735AK or 1935AK. (Believe AK to be 4x4). I have a specific spec tho. I want Hub Reduction Axles front and rear. It has to be V8, ideally it needs to be EPS (not an Australian option) so it can be wife friendly, it has to be the later cab with tapered door windows, and it needs to be a sleeper/mid cab to give more room between the overland body I’m going to build and the driving seats… (and if I was really picky, it’d have the ‘wide cab’ I learned about whilst reading this thread a few days ago!!!) This is why my search has returned to the UK and Europe… and in doing so, found all you Merc Fans here!!!
As for me… I’m a 40yr old welder boilermaker and Agri Engineer who used to live in Herefordshire… Got a job driving overland trucks… Met my wife thru that job, and then emigrated to The Barossa in South Australia, where I now sell tractors. Lived here for 8 yrs, and the plan now is to downsize and buy a smaller place, build this truck and drive it back to the UK in about 5 yrs time for a yrs visit!! (Yes, I know I’m bonkers!!).
Once I work out how to post pics using the Ipad, I’ll put some up of the Overlanders and vehicles I’ve been looking at!
Cheers for now, Simon (aka Sitec… My forum name on Land Rover and Tractor sites!!)
Well, I think (thanks to the ‘frequently asked questions’ section) I’ve worked it out. If it works, here’s what I drove in Africa. Lovely machine, that was let down by the older V6 that always sounded like it was slightly out of time!
And here’s the type of thing I’ve been looking at… (If it was V8 I’d have bought it) Trouble with these is they’re all LHD, which a, presents a problem getting it into and use in Australia… And b, huge work if I want to convert it! Possible, but I don’t think I can be bothered!! This one is in Dubai of all places!
If anyone has 5 min, I’d love to know the differences between NG’s, SK’s, AK’s etc. seems there were small V8’s, big V6’s, big V8’s, huge V8’s, tiny straight 6’s, many a gearbox inc the EPS (how many speeds are they?), and of course over here the Roadranger gearbox and Rockwell axled trucks…
