Mercedes Badges - What's what??

Slackbladder:
Badges! “We don’t need no steenking badges”

I think this scene ends with “for my next impression, Jessie Owens”

You’ll have to be a diehard Mel Brooks fan to recognize these

I’m not sure the first two digits are down to weight although 18 are usually 4x2 and 25 are 6x2 even on rigids although the second two are the power rating (or close too )

Gross weight load on the chassis, so a unit with an 18 can only ever be 18 tonne as the axle would be overloaded otherwise (the other 20 tonnes is born by the trailer axles), therefore a 25 would have to be a 6x2 as you can spread the extra 7 tonnes over the extra axle.

Ford did it better ; Cargo 3224 - 32gtw, 240bhp - simples!

I dont think Ford did anything better when it came to Trucks…or cars really. just my opinion of course

A very valid opinion that I will second

Transcontinental was way ahead of its time.

gardun:
Actually the second two numbers are the quoted BHP/10 and the first two are the actual output

2544 - quoted 440 bhp - actual output feels more like 250

Made me laugh…
I drove an 1944 sk, and this “beast” v8 and supposed 440 bhp at 40 liters of diesel.Im spanish and i talk in terms of Liters/100kms.
These truck was amazing, high fuel consumption but it had more than 500 bhp.
1944 was better in performance than the next truck in home, it was an 1850s, amazing truck, but the 44 was better for us in terms of power and fuel economy.
The 1944 was equipped with EPS and ZF 16+2 reverse gears.1850 was equipped with EPS system too but gearbox was made by Merc.

Cheers.Jorge.

Ok going back on heavy’s after a five year break I was given a 12 plate Scania G 440, where as most of them seem to be R cabs, so what’s the diff between a G & R cab?

Yes, true, the Ford Transcontinental was a fantastic truck, just ahead of its time.

Boo9729:

Isn’t the R Cab the Topline, the Super Space Cab equivalent?

No you can get R series day cabs, flat top sleeper, standard height cab, highline and topline spec.

Not really sure how the G differs though.

God, have you seen the prices of RWD Escorts these days!!! Recently sold my MK2 Mexico for a princely sum…and now Bodie’s dead, watch them RS2000 prices rocket yet again…all that shines isn’t gold of course, rotting pieces of kak that now constitute ‘Trailer Queens’, but the masses loved em’…

I think the g cab has more of an engine hump in the middle.

JB:
I think the g cab has more of an engine hump in the middle.

That is my understanding of it too, a P Cab’s engine hump is like a dividing wall between the driver and the passenger.
