Maximum plated weight a rarity?

That’ll be all the gumf you keep in the lockers Neil :grimacing:.

Yopu are not far wrong Lib, both side lockers on the trailer are full of equipment which accounts for the extra weight.

Of course maybe you meant all my stuff in the lockers in the cab? That can’t be more than 2 or 3 tonne I’m sure.

Would this “equimpent” have flashing lights and things by any chance .

No flashing lights but some of it is electrical, stair climbers for moving machines for example, along with metal plates, timber, ramps and a 101 other things. Nothing at all that flashes as far as I remember.

seems to be one extreme or the other on my job. one contract is running decorative cans- just like being empty! another is running household wares i.e shampoo, washpowder, etc etc and that can be fairly heavy. i had 26 plts of diet coke on last monday… on 5 axles :open_mouth: . were also reloading 25 tons of leather from scotland regularly and that makes the ■■■■■■■ sing a bit coming over stainmore

1-2 times a week I run at 44 tonnes,Usually shipping container full of waste paper or shredded steel or alluminium,to be processed in china.
I always check the weighbridge, unless weight 44 tonne or under I wont move, apparently you are allowed 10% over, but like I say I will only pull if under the max weight, allowing for the 85kg of myself and if I only have half a tank of fuel I take a litre a kilo and take that off as well
Maybe extreme,but IM the driver

I used to work for a bloke doing nothing but Greece, he had 460 and 520 XL Globetrotters 480 XF Dafs and a 530 XF Daf, all plated at 31 ton :open_mouth: we had a regular load to Athens, full loads never more than 6 ton, and for the reloads from Italy, never more than 5 ton. We just about managed to get around with all them horses pulling thoes big weights  :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

lib.
what about the gypsum job. if you had 12 pallets of bags an i think you would be on, if not over, 44 tonnes.

That’s the only one I did reguarly with any weight on Stupeeed, reason I asked .

The heaviest I’ve ever been is when i hauled dirty dirt. Its a name we give to the dirt that has been heavily polluted with toxins from back in the day when industry had no enviromental laws to follow. Nothing is allowed to happen on these dirty dirt sites until it, the dirt, has removed. well, the stuff also has a very high per tonne rate. somewheres in the neighborhood of 17-19 quid per tonne. I was company so i got about 30% of the take, which is still very good. So i felt it in my interest to greased the loaders palm and wound up having my truck weigh in at 46000 kgs twice in one day. may not sound like much but my four axle rigid tipper was only plated at about 33 tonne.

Tankers will generally run at Gross Max and sometimes a little heavier

An empty IMO 1 triaxle ADR tank and 3 axle unit will probably tare of at 19 or 20 tonne

Another reason is the resale value. It is far easier to sell a top spec full weight high cab tractor than trying to get rid of a left hand drive low cab downrated unit

The most stupid thing I have seen when I was in the bodyshop.

To downrate a tractor unit you removed 2 bolts from the fifth wheel plate or put thinner bolts in the propshaft
