Ive noticed a lot of ‘’ 3.5 ton limits ‘’ going up over the last ten years or so. The public dont want us ''dirty uneducated truckers ‘’ driving tho their towns and housing estates as we are all dangerous. so i say the following.
Ok place a weight limit however no vehicle over stated weight will enter it including fire engines, dust carts, home delivery vehicles, etc … So if ur house burns down oh well [zb] happens he he … dont forget to take your rubbish bin to the start of the weight …oh u wanted a ton bag of sand delivered, well meet the driver at the start of the weight limit with ur wheelborrow …
One resident did stand in front of a HGV in an attempt to stop it going over the bridge, it turned out this chap was well educated and had experience in the road transport industry.
Bath council could not explain their own conclusion for a weight limit ban, and were challenged by the Wiltshire PM Doctor Andrew Murrison who in turn did not want these nasty smelly juggernauts on his patch upsetting residents in Wiltshire towns and villages who were going to get the heavies going past their front door.
It has been printed in Commercial Motor that the spotters made over 150 mistakes.
I can see what the problem is, the driver will add the tractor unit weight to the weight of the empty trailer and be under the 18 tonne limit for BOA,and just go for it, the towns roads were built for horse and donkey transport and not for modern day artics. Pollution is always quoted in a negative way by the media and Nimby types, a modern truck does not pollute so much as they used to, if they are good enough to transit the clear mountain air in Austria and Switzerland, then they are good enough for the Nimby brigade in the UK. Wasnt there a perfectly viable bus on tram way scheme shelved in Bath, they did want that in their back garden, what was amusing when local tv was filming a resident, saying it would spoil their dog walk route, in the back round was a fly tipping area with old tyres and rubbish.
The idea was to reduce daily traffic jams on the lower Bristol road, Batheaston bypass was a waste of money and solved nothing.
The “except for loading” (including water from a fire engine) would apply as, being nimbies, if it’s for them then it’s OK to go through a weight limit.
Snudger:

Maybe so, but i have the veiw that if they want a weight limit it includes all vehicles but that will never happen. shame tho
What about the cars that all have one occupancy, they should be fined for clogging up the towns, their journey is not a matter of life and death, they drive for hours to go to a farm shop and buy a bag of spuds and contribute nothing to the UK economy.
If you weigh all the cars and how many pass through BOA in an hour or a day, and compare that to an artic that can carry more and pollute less as the power to weight ratio is very good.
They should ban all the cars in BOA and make it a pedestrian only area.
When you are on the motorway and stuck in a jam, look down at the occupants in the car next you and ask yourself where are they going at at peak hours when they know the roads will be congested.
If they had waited an hour when everyone is at work ,it would make a big difference.
I see retired couples at rush hour, and you think, is your journey really that neccesary at that time.
Business people can now do video conferences with Sype or on line, why drive all day to see the whites of their clients eyes, just to shake their hand and get the deal or contract.
Almost logical, but it leads to a dark place when you start question others freedom of movement.
Keep it in perspective. A few Tossers in a quintessentially English village have delusions of grandeur and want the benefits of 21st century supply without the harsh realities. This shouldnt automatically bring other peoples chosen methods of transport into question. IMHO.
Well said Goaty, they are living in a dream world, a fantasy deluded dream of Utopia with their little country cottage with lovely views over Wiltshire, they seem to be educated folks, but in essence judging by their infantile comments, they are not living in a “real world”.
Are they second or third home owners from London, and when they see a monster killer juggernaut, they say we can not have that on our patch reducing the re sale value of their 4 to 5 bed pad in Wurzel country.
It was ok for the over weight fleet of coaches when they had the Olympic drive through over the old bridge, remember the tour coach that crashed with an american band on in Bath, he was in a 7.5 ton limit for trucks and it is not signed up for coaches or buses not to go down or up Brass knocker hill.
Has “Sal” returned or is she too busy sponsoring a gorilla in the mist that’s helping to build a christian missionary mud hut in Africa that will teach AIDS infected children to write to Amnesty International?
