Maritime

One thing I will say about Maritime is in the 3 and a half years I was there not once was I asked to do anything that was not possible within legal limits. Any problem with truck or trailer phone fleet and fixed ASAP 24hrs a day. They had their faults but that wasn’t one of them. One aside if your microwave breaks expect a 3 month wait for repair or replacement

Yes they ban you from Tesco depots so you get home early.
Bit harsh as the “driver” had only been trying to get on a bay for 20 minutes!

Not yet anyway…

Easy job, good kit, wages are towards, if not the, best in the container game (a low paying area of HGV’s), always parked securely and usually on account so no forking out of your pocket and waiting 2 weeks to get it back, drivers welfare insurance - if you die on the job then your missus becomes wealthy

If you read my post, you’ll know that I finished on bad terms, and will have a dig at certain people in the company, NOT at the company which is owned by someone who actually gives a ■■■■ about the drivers - unfortunately, this seems to start and stop with the owner in my experience.

Where did you work out of mate?

Cab hopper out of Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool, then got a truck in Leeds

You’ll know my mate then Paul Heyhoe

Don’t know the name off the top of my head tbh, but I’ve had A LOT of jobs, so I struggle with names, I’m ok with faces but don’t always remember where I know them from

I let on to a guy once who I recognised, and then he started a fight with me, I’d thrown him off the bus a few years before for being a ■■■■, just recognised the face and no idea where from so I said hello

I’d eat my dinner off most of their wagons & trailers.

Saw one on Friday, brand new white fridge box, brand new Skelly, brand new Volvo, I felt dirty just overtaking him.

He used to be a planner in Manchester then given the yard in Garforth i think when they got their first yard over there. He’s area manager or whatever the call it for Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Immingham & Newcastle, he’s a little fat fella in his mid 40’s with a short temper haha.

Is he 1 of the little fat brothers? I’d seen them around and they gave the nod for me to get the boot, but I never actually spoke to either of them.

‘3 MONTHS’ waiting for a Microwave !
I’d have thought 11 weeks was plenty of time.
What did you do in all that time ?
It must be so hard to go without !

I hope my Jacuzzi doesn’t break down !
(Wonder how long that will take to fix ?)

Thats them, Darren is his brother, i think he runs the Leeds depot now.

Yea. Such a shame that they pulled the plug on paying out the safety bonus a whole 2 weeks before they had to pay it saying that there wasn’t the money available! My old man lost £200 he was expecting/ entitled to as part of his pay agreement just before Christmas.
On top of that, those who need to do hours on their CPC have been told that they have to go in on a Saturday, without pay! if they want to keep their jobs in September. CPC was also part of the pay agreement too.

Bonus - that’s the give away isn’t? Bonus! The bonus wasn’t paid because their accident claims went up. The agreement is if they negotiate a reduction in their insurance premium then the saving is shared to accident free drivers. If it is paid, there is no guarantee as to how much it will be.

The cpc agreement was that they would undertake to put drivers through the courses to complete 35 hours if they started before a certain date, there was no agreement to how they would do it and my understanding is that Saturdays are only offered and it is voluntary, if a driver decides he doesn’t want to attend that is up to him and must go elsewhere, which will then mean doing it in his/her own time (a weekend or while on holiday) and at his own cost, yeah they are such a nasty company aren’t they?

Listen to yourselves sometimes will ya! Think and read before you post stuff, you show yourselves up!

Before you ask, no I don’t work for them, but know a lot of their drivers and have to admit I’m tempted. They weren’t happy about not seeing the bonus but understood why, they still got their other bonus though.

One poster said he got sacked but says the company is good (that says a lot!) just some individuals let in down. Rumours and gossip are exaggerated and biased depending on who is telling them. Stick to the facts and look at what is on offer.
The way I see it is that they offer what most drivers want, good kit, run legal, decent money, security and fairness. so they work you hard and extract the max everyday. But those trucks don’t come free, the maintanence bill isn’t cheap I wouldn’t have thought? and that no layby parking thing they insist on must cost a fortune, £20+ for some services now, split that over a thousand trucks…

I work for a small haulier and he’s a decent guv’nor but admits that he can’t compete with the big companies, newest motor he has bought is 5 years old, Maritime sell theirs after 3.

This John Williams fella that is spoken about with a lot of respect is having a go to improve the lot for the driver and by the looks of it just wants his drivers to work hard, legally, in nice trucks. Not really sure what some of drivers want?

Brand new licence as well no doubt.Any ■■■■ can put up a new truck as long as you pay the bloody monkey driving it peanuts.Dont really matter if the monkey can drive or not does it.
Tells you something dont it.;Would rather pay a good driver 20 notes an hour than some chancer 6 but get the job done and get the truck back in one piece.

So you would pay a driver 20 quid an hour? I’m sure your haulage company would do great. 70 hours a week? That’s a big chunk out of your profit.

I love the drivers on here that think a new motor is king and that feel sorry for the company they work for because, bless them they aren’t making any money at all because those big lorry things cost so much to run.

Some drivers don’t half believe the company ■■■■■■■■. I’ve never yet heard a company tell it’s drivers how amazingly profitable business is. Why would they? They prefer the driver to think that things are really difficult. Sometimes they are, but they are very rarely as bad as they make them out to be.

Drivers want a decent wage for doing a day’s work. No more or less. 7/8/9/quid an hour in a C+E is not decent, and those that think it is are deluding themselves really.

I know of several companies that pay this poor money, and some that pay a lot better.

They are all still in business. The drivers at the better paying companies are fiercely loyal, and wouldn’t leave at any price

The drivers at the others are generally cab polishers that are seduced by a shiny lorry and that believe everything the gaffer tells them…

+1

Maritime was my last company after a lifetime of Foriegn and UK firms. They were up there with the best. Good pay, good conditions, good equipment . The only fault for me,was boring work. We had disagreements but apart from a couple of over ambitious traffic clerks they were a very fair minded bunch. Nothing but good wishes to the firm.
For someone used to Dutch and Swiss fridge firms it was money for old rope!

Maritime lasted about 6 weeks at Tesco.Looking at the standard of tesco drivers at the moment that should tell you something!

Do Maritime only do boxes out of Manchester or do they also have curtainsiders running out doing haulage ?

It says ERF not RAF:
