On the news it did say that Border Force will have trouble manning the borders, they cant get the staff to fill the vacancies now, so its all looking a bit dire, no doubt it will all be sorted as we can hire customs staff of old from when the borders opened ( shengen ) but just in case i am saving 10 euro notes in case the french start asking for coffee money again, and want to dip our tanks.

If they agree to fit a few GPMGâs at various sectorâs, I will gladly man one FOC.

If the job was actually being a border force, delivering richly deserved beatings to uppity foreigners, throwing undesireables into the channel and regular trips to Calais with a flamethrower and mustard gas rather than being fat, idle, inefficient and unable to actually do anything other than look at passports and harrass fridge drivers Iâd sign up tomorrow.
Roll on Brexit.

Mazzer andJuddian. The article is in The Guardian, yes. But its not an opinion piece, the main part is in quotation marks. The paper is doing it
s job of âreportingâ. The last paragraph is a reply from the Gov " Department for Exiting the European Union". So, there is some attempt at balance. Looks to me like a newspaper doing it`s job.
ako444.
âFor me, I voted that way because I recognised that the EU ladens us with beuraucracy and ties the hands of our industries.â
Do you think that leaving the EU will mean a free for all? It wont, there
ll still be regulations and if we carry on with any EU trade well be still obeying their regs (which we
ll no longer influence) as well as our own.
âforeign hauliers parked up weekending at Immingham kicking the arse out of cabotage rulesâ
If they are breaking the rules as you suggest isn`t that a failure of the UK enforcement authorities?
âTherefore I want a changeâ
Be careful what you wish for. Were getting a change, but there
s no sign that it`s gonna be for the better.
âA level playing fieldâ
Why are some ânewspapersâ supporting or exit from the EU? They and their proprietors are after doing away with the EU regs so we can be more competitive in the world market. They want their employment rules to put us on a âlevel playing fieldâ with China, India, etc.
The EU aint perfect but it
s probably a hell of a lot better than wants coming mate.
OH, and âProject Fearâ hasnt been mentioned yet. So I will. It
s a lovely phrase designed to ridicule and shut down any form of debate about the negative aspects of leaving the EU. It means nothing and seems to allow the speaker to fail to respond to criticism.
Pointing out the dangers of driving a coach down a steep hill into a fog bank without brakes is good reason to be frightened, after all.
Franglais.
I hold all the mainstream media in equal contempt, the daily mail and the grauniad/BBC, C4 even worse and latterly sky just happen to be prime examples of their output being particularly galling.
Each and every one of them will no doubt have fair articles among the usual output due to the political leanings of the owners and staff.
Things have now gone so far that our telly is never on a live broadcast, and any time we do spend viewing the idiot box it will either be Netflix or youtube.
Iâve been seeking alternative new sources for many years now, and see no reason to change, i especially object to being forced to pay, through threat of prison, the BBC for its barely veiled propaganda.
Avoiding this msm output is probably similar to when chickens are freed from a battery prison, after a few weeks they resort to thinking and behaving like chickens again.

Ive got to admit you are pointing up a problem: What is the truth in any situation? How do we know we aren
t being fed biased information? Do we even know who is providing that âinfoâ anyway?
I get most of my info from the BBC still. I DO believe they are trying to be unbiased, but being a bunch of human beings, they`ll never succeed, but, best of the bunch for me. The editors need to decide how much time to allot to each subject, which experts to ask for info etc. Not easy, and sometimes they get it wrong, but they ARE accountable, unlike many other âfacelessâ info providers.
And politics/economics/futurology etc have no âexpertsâ anyway.
What was the saying ââthe first victim of war is the truthââ ?
Juddian:
What was the saying ââthe first victim of war is the truthââ ?
Yep.
Or variously attributed to Churchill , Twain etc:
âA lie travels halfway round the world before the truth has it`s boots onâ.
Franglais my point being that because the Guardian has an agenda of being anti Brexit it will not be objective and question the facts of the article. Iâm not saying the article is a load of bull but even if it was the Guardian wouldnât question it as it wouldnât suit their agenda on Brexit. The Guardian is typical of the current left, claims to support the working man yet itâs readership despise the working class, listen to the likes of Jeremy Hardy on the News Quiz, never wastes an opportunity to mock the working class, which is why Labour the historical choice for working class people is struggling for voters and has to resort to bribing the young.
If the article had appeared in a more centrist paper then it would hold more credibility

Agreed but the Guardian has less than most

I always thought that Jeremy Hardy and the News Quiz were quite fair minded? They mock everyone!
Never mind where an article appears, if it stands up, then thats enough isn
t it? Even The Sun gets it right sometimes !*
*Not very often though.
Seems most the people recognise that we import far more than we export an yet we are leaving the biggest free market in the world on the basis of some spurious notion of taking back control, it would be funny if they werenât so tragically misinformed.

Even the BBC has admitted that programs such as the News Quiz is biased to the left hence why they now have a token person who isnât on it, Daniel Finkelstein fills the role regularly. As for Jeremy Hardy being fair minded you obviously didnât here his rant about Calais and that drivers should stop whinging about the minor inconvenience of the illegals itâs just part of the job, would he say that being assaulted as a nurse or teacher was part of the job, I doubt it, still I doubt he has much contact with the working class growing up in Farnham an area well known for itâs social deprivation, yet another champagne socialist

Yep, the Beeb are trying to make the News Quiz more balanced. Maybe not there yet, but itâs something that theyâre addressing.
I remember Hardyâs piece on those poor immigrants at Calais. Not a balanced assessment. But then, heâs a comic, not a political analyst. His criticism of fox hunting rarely mentions the chickenâs point of view, after all. He certainly doesnât reflect my political viewpoint, but heâs normally humorous, and thatâs enough for me.
