Really? So how is the radio, if its a 12v and any 12v sockets fed from new then?
By a voltage dropper from the main wiring loom. And bazstan, do you have any documentary evidence to back up your claim? I wouoldn’t have thought it would make a deal of difference UNLESS you’re running appliances which draw a high current which would leave one battery in a considerably lower state of charge.
Would welcome some input from a qualified sparks on this one, think it’s heading into MMTM territory.
http://www.caravanandmotorhomebooks.com/articles/12volt-24volt.htm Checked out a lot of sites before parting with my hard earned, this one had/has plenty of information.
I fitted two 12 volt leisure batteries wired as 24 volt and charge these through a split charge relay from the main batteries when the motor is running.

Taking a 12 volt feed from one of your main batteries is a bad idea, it will disrupt the charging of your main batteries and cause there early demise.
This is true, what will happen is that the charging system will take the weakest battery as its reference point, thereby overcharging the battery that you do not take the feed from.
When you think about it, if it was that simple then manufacturers wouldn’t go to the trouble of fitting droppers.

I didn’t know they did. I hold my hand up. I have learnt a lot since joining the Trucknet forums some 10 years ago.

Fitted mobile phones have droppers, radios have droppers unless they are 24v, Most modern lorries have at least one 12v outlet for accessories, well since 1985 really with a DAF

From a 24v feed through a dropper, or droppers, and not from 1 battery.
Well you live & learn and learn.
Or ofcourse 2 x 12v sockets could be wired in series - but probably unlikely due to amperage restriction.
Often vehicles with two 12v sockets have them marked with a different rating, 15 amps and 5 amps for example.
