newmercman, coming to this late but in fact there were quite a few MDs in Israel starting in the late 50s. Some of them were sort of reparations but most were not, and they were very popular with the fire fighting services. On civvy street not so much but they were around, my uncle had a Jupiter semi he used to tow his low-loader with until he replaced it with a Scania I think. The driver hated it because of the constant wail of the air cooling fan, but as long as you made sure the cooling surfaces were free from oil, it just kept going.
