I really like what you’ve done with the Gallery, superb job
No offence intended but I wish I could say the same about the Services page and the Links page, that big writing is horrible mate, it was much better before you changed the font size.

Very good.
My only thought was that when I got to the gallery, good pics of the variety of work done but when I saw the pics of the truckshow and you polishing it it sort of blurred the lines of a professional website offering a service and a drivers personal website.
What do you think and does it matter, bearing in mind I’m not a manager in an office likely to seeking a transport company’s services so not really qualified to say.Just an unqualified thought really.
First impressions:
Lose the bold writing, it is doing nothing for your site (in fact it would probably turn people away), change your font to a sans serif one as well, believe it or not this does make a difference. Add some images to the home page inserted inline with the writing.
As suggested by someone else, change the title of the Home page to About Us.
For google rankings:
Google “free directories”, choose 3 or 4 different key phrases with what you think someone that would be searching for a haulier would use. I have added you to my directory using the keyphrase “Haulage in Suffolk”, you could also use “Road Haulage in Suffolk” “Transport in Ipswich” “Ipswich Haulage” Ipswich Road Transport" then submit your site to all the free directories that you can find alternating the keyphrases each time (this will give you more chances of someone hitting your site when searching). One thing I will say is that a ranking in google is not a quick thing to get, I have been building my own sites for 2 years now and I am still not ranking in google for the majority of my keyphrases.
If you are a member of other forums, add your site to your signature in those as well but use a keyphrase instead of just the site address, The html code for this is
<a href="http:www.goatytrucking.com">Haulage in Suffolk</a>
if you need it.
Build a facebook page with one of your keyprases as the title and add your website to that and post on it regularily.
Create a twitter account and use it regularily.
Remember social networking sites are your friends in building links and the more links you have, the more exposure you have in google.
Hope this helps.

In all honesty, rather than spending weeks or even days perfecting your design and probably still not being happy with it, have you thought about just employing a freelance web designer?
Tbh it was something i’ve been meaning to do for a while. It was only an idle search that uncovered the world of diy web design. I had a dabble and was quite impressed with how straightforward it was. The proof s in the pudding, so i put it in front of the “Dragons” for some feedback. If it turns out ■■■■■■ no harm done but its certainly whetted my appetite for it.

gallery is loads better now.

I’ll be critical, sorry, but hopefully only to be constructive and not to knock you as it’s not a bad website, but it looks what it is, one that been done by somebody having a go at websites, but far better than my first attempt many years ago.
I’d change the font, You don’t see many company websites with big bold writing.
and move the home page to an “about us” page where you could expand on company history and acheivements.
Quite nice personal touch signing off at the end though.Make the home page a bit more snappy, keep it brief. if they want to know more then link them to the services pages.
As far as I understand search engines don’t just look at meta tags but also general text, they look at the prominance of certain words. If you keep the home page brief then you’ll have more prominant haulage related words for the search engine to index.Using Columns, like newspapers, does make a site look more balanced and professional.
If you enjoy doing the website, then keep going, research on the internet about web development and keep improving the site, it’s always work in progress anyway.
If you don’t enjoy it and think it you could justify it as a business tool, then get a web site developer to make one for you.
Agreed and agreed.

I’ve tweeked it again. I’ll sleep on it for now though.

The thought was to soften the edges a bit, make it a bit more personal rather than Steddie Obart corporate. Also, despite what Shuttle may imply, I hope it shows a pride in the equipment/job.

Quite a can of worms i’ve opened!
Thanks for your thoughts and taking the time to add it to your directory. As i said earlier this lot will keep me busy for a few hours.
It’s coming along
I’d keep the personal touch of polishing trucks and signing off on the now “about us” page, like you said you not a major multi national, play on your strength of being a small haulier who’ll make sure the job is done well.
Do you have more that one truck?
I always thought you ran a couple of others, if so I’d have some photos of them.
Change the font and list your services on the home page, linking them to the services page. there is a way of getting it to link directly to that bit of the page.
I think with a bit of tweaking it’ll be a nice little website.
I know its short and simple but have a look on massmedia.cc/goaty/ its just diffrent modules , the thing is its easy to manage so any changed that need done can be done instantly and thats what you need , a place to look for free hosting with no ads etc is usually ebay , i had originally paid £15 for a full year uptime is good and control panel has all the addons you would need to get up and running quickly
Anyone else see “Goaty Transport” and think of Alan Partridge’s “Monkey Tennis”■■?
TC
i just googled “goaty truckin” and its number 1 search

yeah, but you still didn’t polish the tank
I can’t see anything wrong with that at all, spelling and grammar all correct, the text is brief and to the point with a welcome lack of ‘buzzwords’ all in all, a good job
I would swerve the links, even the ones that direct people to firms that do things you don’t, may as well do that part yourself and add your 10%
I haven’t read all the posts on this, so forgive me if somebody else has said this.
I used to be a web designer, but I packed it in 'cos its zbing boring.
KEEP the LINKS to other sites as long as your potential customers wont be giving them business that you want because of them.
Why keep the links? Because Google and other search engines like sites that have cross links to other web sites, it can give you a higher rating. So you MUST get the other companies to put your web site address (not your email address!) somewhere on their websites. If they dont, then take their link OFF of yours.
if you both cross reference each other , thats good. If its only a one way link, then you are doing THEIR marketing for them but nobody is doing yours.
So try to get as many cross links as you can BOTH ways.
Cheers,
LandyLad
Its very good for someone who’s never built a website before.
I’m getting a greyed out area blocking the front page top truck pic off at about mirror top level.
Agree with others that some text (inc. links) is too heavy/bold.
1st link isn’t working.
No address given anywhere. If I’m considering dealing with a co. I want to see where they are.
I’d repeat the contact details on the front page.

Cheers. Seems to be working too, already had several leads because of it!

That’s how the WSD kit chopped it tbh. I did ■■■■ around with it but decided it didn’t look to bad, arty in fact, also shows off the contact details on the sleeper panel.

Spoke to a mate who’s into these things (no girlfriend) who reckons it depends on the settings of the computer you’re viewing it on.
1st link isn’t working.
It was. Then it wasn’t!, Try it now.

Fair point. Although if you’d like it email me.
I’d repeat the contact details on the front page.
Another fair one.
